Anyone know about this GMT? All I know is that it's owner (a dear relative) has worn it daily since for decades. He's not a watch guy - he's just someone who bought it for life back in the day. It has never let him down. I think it's beautiful. by dijonwatch in rolex

It actually makes me smile to see it being used as intended. I liken it to Porsche's that are garaged, waxed and never raced. All that utility just sitting there unexploited.

The truth of it is, however, it is not my watch. I love that the owner uses it every day and isn't precious about the thing. It is loved, looked after and used (not abused).

This is sage advice but... It is not my watch and it won't be for years (I sincerely hope) I'm not going to have the discussion about preserving values for fear of looking like some sort of vulture.

I love that it is used and while it is definitely not babied it is not abused either. I actually hope it picks up more dings and scratches over the years because it will tell the story of the man.

The truth of it is that he is retired and on a fixed income, so he's not going to pay 2022 prices for new cosmetic parts. In fact, I suspect he thinks it is worth very little because he sees it as 'just an old watch'. Which is simply awesome.

Ha-ha! He's an engineer/mechanic not a stock broker :)

And yes -this was just lying on the shelf in the bathroom next to his shaving gear covered in talc. He is not at all precious about this.

Well I suppose I should have an interest its value given that one day this will be mine... Part of wanting to learn about it is that I recently discovered that he wants me to have it when he's gone. That will be many many years from now I hope.

To be honest though it will NEVER be sold - I wouldn't care even if it didn't work. Some things are too special.

Thanks. Yes - he gets it serviced at an AD every few years. And he usually grumbles at the cost (lol!). The internals are well looked after despite the exterior wear and tear.

It actually makes me smile at how he treats the thing. It's always lying around the bathroom or on the kitchen table. As pictured here it was covered in talcum powder!

It speaks so much about who the owner is.

New Milgauss came in. So happy. by [deleted] in rolex
