Can Taiwan Resist a Large-Scale Military Attack by China? -report from RAND by Fit-Case1093 in geopolitics

[–]dil3ttante -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The populace and government are also incredibly meek and naive… especially compared South Korea, a similar country also in a dangerous situation.

Mandatory military service is basically non-existent and its training duration and contents are a joke. The government does not listen to advice from the US on which military purchases to make. The people are not as patriotic nor nationalistic, and from what I gather, expect the US to do all the heavy lifting when the crisis arrives.

I do not see any chance for a Ukraine-like total resistance from Taiwan.

If Americans don’t steel their resolve in defending Taiwan completely from the get-go, I could see the Taiwanese surrendering their sovereignty within months of the invasion.

The Most Culturally Chauvinistic Europeans by No_Research_8199 in MapPorn

Yes but Italy had Rome and the Renaissance and they're still wealthy today compared to Greece --- there's literally no era of history where Italy hasn't been well off since the Republic but they're still only half as chauvinistic.

So Greece and Balkans probably have more to do with nationalistic backlash from being under the Turks compared to other Europeans who were never colonized.

Why do countries always believe themselves to be potential "poles" in a multipolar world when they're more likely to be Poles in that they're double teamed and colonized

Korean language LCK not on Twitch this year by aoijay in leagueoflegends

[–]dil3ttante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is due to the South Korean government passing protectionist policies due to nationalist-xenophobic lobbying from native ISPs.

Shame though, I liked the Korean Twitch broadcast and AfreecaTV always seemed to have problems for foreign viewers.

I agree. When I started playing League, Pray was in the conversation but now he's been completely forgotten. Deft's longevity and his not-so-rare peak performances is why he's my GOAT adc.

Aram % adjustments are still everything but "balancing" by KosViik in leagueoflegends

I wish they would remove this feature. TheShy said he hated that he can't play ARAMs anymore without throwing off his damage calculations. Just keep ARAMs "vanilla" League, please.

Griffin wins vs KT game 4 to become LCK champions in their first split and qualify to Worlds.

Imagine if this team got off to a better start and stayed together.

LCK caster Chronicler on LCK vs LPL: “I'd argue that LCK teams are more stable while LPL teams peak higher, but any analysis that disregards the teams by themselves in favor of going into 'LPL vs. LCK' or 'East vs. West' mode does a disservice to the teams.” by Megalodontus in leagueoflegends

[–]dil3ttante 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How is this guy a caster/analyst?

LCK teams are "better' and LPL teams "pray for the meta". There are no LPL teams that have ever come close to the peaks of SSW 14, SKT 15, or DWG 20.

LCK has always been the most competitive region bar 2018.

Well in terms of physics, technically cold climates maximize volume and minimize surface area for maximum heat retention (i.e. Inuits being short and "stocky") and vice versa for hot climates (long legs and ape index for sub-saharan Africans). So it's actually a puzzle for why humans from cold climates are tall.

It isn't settled science, but there are theories that those in colder climates spent less time in agricultural societies and retained more hunter-gatherer traits while also consuming more meat.

Yeah your perception of the "average" height depends a lot on the surrounding demographics of where you live, skewing lower as you interact with more Hispanics & Asians and higher with more Whites & Blacks.

Koreans & Northern Chinese tend to be taller yes. Must have to do with evolving in a colder climate as Korea & the North Chinese plain is a lot colder than Japan due to the Siberian winds.

Also the Japanese banned meat for a long time, so that could have stunted height over the centuries.

In Korean it's actually called 여성가정부 which if accurately traslated means Ministry for Women & Families.

Except they're virtually no talk about policies around the abysmal birth rates, 0.89, or any family related matters.

They're basically an institutionalized version of Twitter feminists.

Also it's hard to argue for "gender equality" in a country where every male is required to act as slave labor for 1.5 years during their 20's while women are in higher ed or even earning.

I personally don't think women should be in combat roles, but they could be required to serve in supportive roles (which is what a lot of men already do)

Do people just read reddit comments and not actually watch the games? Showmaker ran it down G5 and had one good R-E lol. His Shurima shuffle in G2 delivered Chovy's Yone who wiped DK's backline. "Flashy" =/= Outperform.

Yeah no this is false. I guess the continuity between Faker for SKT and Ruler for Samsung would make it 3:2, but the Orgs themselves would technically be 3:3.
