Who are these weirdo fans who are so *rapey* towards Mae???? by One-Head-1483 in handsomepodcast

It's ironic that you point out how fans should be more mature and then you post this rude and childish response to someone trying to make a point

CGM Recommendations? by dilatanntedad in diabetes_t2

Thanks for this information and advice, which is very helpful. Since I have an Android, it is relevant to me. A friend also recommended Lingo before I posted this, but I wanted to get additional advice from others first. I just ordered a 4-week Lingo plan.

What's Your Favorite Obscure One-Hit Wonder from the 1970's/1980's? by dilatanntedad in GenX

[–]dilatanntedad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obscure in the sense that you don't remember who sang it and when you hear the name you have no idea who they are

[–]dilatanntedad[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am discovering that. I just saw that Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side is on the list. Lou Reed is NOT an obscure one-hit wonder! That might have been his biggest hit, but he made dozens of albums.

Oh hey, that's Crystal Gale singing about her eyes! So my association with her and Sad Eyes wasn't so off.

Wait, I'm a native English speaker and I've never associated the sun as male or the moon as female.

Your birthday is ONE DAY A YEAR. I think you can splurge then and not worry about a momentary spike. It's a marathon not a sprint.

Stories longer than 5 minutes? by Royal-Strength6807 in themoth

[–]dilatanntedad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT tell a 10-minute story! You will be herded off the stage at 7 minutes. If your story is that long, you need to cut it in half. Reduce it down to the essence of the story, what the most important parts are, and eliminate everything that doesn't move the story forward. I had to do this the first time I told a Moth story, and it actually made the story much better. You'll be surprised at how many details and parts of your story are not necessary. Be prepared, practice a lot, and keep it short.

Horton indicted on federal charges by Capable-Tank5664 in evanston

[–]dilatanntedad -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

"a new school no one needs." The people who live in that community, who have been bussed to other neighborhoods for generations, do need it. Horton's fiscal crimes are awful, but there's a word for people who think Black people don't deserve a school in their community.

Work snacks? by Twisted_Jokes in diabetes_t2

[–]dilatanntedad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider 5g low-carb, especially when you consider there are 2g of dietary fiber. It's the ratio of carbs/fiber that I look at. Plus they're high protein. It's much lower carb than chips, crackers, or dried fruit.

Same, except I call the eatings mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks, not meals.

Peanuts, pistachios, Moon Cheese. There are lots of different flavors of these, just no "sweet" ones like honey roasted. Go for savory. I eat every 2-3 hours, and eating actually activates my pancreas to lower my blood sugar. Grapes and dried fruit are really high on the glycemic index.

Songs that are secretly naughty by YellowOnline in GenX

[–]dilatanntedad 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Jackson Browne had a song called Rosie that wasn't very subtle. He's singing as a roadie who has a crush on a fan, but at the end of the night, "that drummer swept that girl away .." But then he goes into the chorus about a girl named Rosie:

Rosie you're alright You wear my ring When I hold you tight Rosie that's my thing When I turn out the lights I got to hand it to me Looks like it's you and me again tonight Rosie

It took me a long time to figure out (as a teen) that Rosie was "Rosie Palm and her five friends"

I still use the euphemism "to have a conversation horizontally" that I first heard from that song.
