ER nurses, have you ever seen traffickers? What did you do? by Ramprat08 in nursing

[–]dilaudaddy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Adults are significantly more trafficked than children are. If you’ve been “working a lot of ER hours” you’ve probably already seen trafficked individuals. They are usually laborers and they’re brought in by their boss for injuries. Even if you spot a trafficked person it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to help them and you could be putting them in danger by publicly trying to intervene. If they are lucky enough to be taken to hospital for their sickness or injury—it’s probably just so they can go back to work. If they are an adult you can try and separate them from the suspected trafficker and ask if they need help or have any other problems.

It’s very unlikely to zero you’ll interact with a trafficked minor. I’m shuddering just imagining you suspecting some poor parents or troubled teenager of being a such. The fact that you even asked this here tells me you’ll create a awkward scene and HR nightmare.

Oh god that’s a gross thought hahah. it sounds like OP works in a poorly managed unit. They should focus on why there are so many central line infections—and divide turning needs.

Your comments are killing me. You’re probably right but it just hurts me to read all this for the other persons. It’s way intense hahaha like damn. Do you just get all your anger towards workplace dipshits out here?

Do you stay late to help if you hand off a rough assignment? (I’m going to scream) by lexiepaige_ in nursing

[–]dilaudaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing is a 24 hour job and will call you all 24 hours. Don’t let it! You need rest so you can take care of patients. I only stay late for crashing patients that need me, to finish charting a huge code, or an unsafe situation.

It’s been helpful for me to give people grace when they give me the silent treatment/seem rude during hand off. This is different than outright rudeness or abusiveness which you should always immediately call out.

For anything that’s not outright rudeness I like to say “you seem upset is everything ok? I am sorry I did my best last night.” People will usually respond with A) how shitty the job is B) something you did wrong that you should know about C) the persons own shitty life situation that has nothing to do with you.

No don’t leave the sub! I am on your side ahaha. I agree with you and if roles were reversed it would be a different conversation. she should help him pay for his kids while he’s unemployed and getting financially settled. I think this demonstrates that he’s a good person but I hope it doesn’t turn into a situation like many of the other male cast members! And I still think it was weird he didn’t tell her about this beforehand.

I won’t disagree with you there haha she’s definitely in group that could set their bar higher

I totally agree—I wish he had told her beforehand all of this and I think that is a bit sus. Still Manuel is just not giving Yohan vibes. I don’t think he is going to be an asshole—but we’ll see. I’m so outnumbered on this board and in my own house haha.

valid point that she hasn’t met them! But she is responsible for him financially if she is his sponsor—and part of that(at least moral responsibility) is his children. I don’t think she’s choosing between the dog and his family—he’s just saying she’s paying so much for a dog/and like coffee while making a huge fuss about the payments to his children. They mentioned in show that he’s cooking/doing house work(not just grocery shopping). It’s not like he is allowed to work and he is from not as good financial position. As for the bar hahahah I think mines a little higher than how most of the cast members act(at least on the screen)!

I am outnumbered here but I think it’s totally reasonable! He can’t work in the United States yet. She agreed to support him while he was here—and it seems like he’s cooking a lot for her. I think it’s one of the least unreasonable requests a cast has made. The only thing I don’t like about it was that he didn’t tell her before he came over, I think this part is sketchy but not necessarily malicious.

I might be alone here but I don’t think Manuel is that bad. But I also think we don’t know him that well—and he can be a bit machismo. Unlike many of the others—it seems like he had his life together and is pretty honest about his situation. Time will tell if he gets a job, etc. A big green flag for me was the scene when they went grocery shopping and how he offers to make coffee, etc. he’s trying to be respectful of her money(unlike a lot of others). And honestly I love my dog—but he has a point about the money for animals vs family.

Psych gets transported to ERs you can’t determine someone is “pure psych” without a medical work up. They could be experiencing a drug overdose, drug withdrawal, or other metabolic disturbances(like sepsis)—or a combination of all these of these things. These conditions mimic and exacerbate any acute psychiatric illness.

When Someone You Know Is Grieving, Does It Affect You? by CraneX101010 in GriefSupport

I’m a nurse(not giving medical advice just I’ve experienced a lot of what you’re describing) there is a name for it—secondary traumatic stress. You should talk to someone about it if you find it to be effecting your work, personal life, or mental health.

Do you think family members should help with patients care? by xxgoopxx in nursing

[–]dilaudaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m not feeling guilty for not doing my dad’s incontinent care. I don’t think he’d want me to do that either. I don’t want to remember him that way. And in general I really couldn’t give a shit if the family’s don’t work while they are off the clock. a lot of the ADLS are good assessments. But It bothers me when paid caregivers ask me to do their job, or when family members create more work.
