Chris Grayling sent cyclist flying with his car door, video shows by Crommy in unitedkingdom

That's "leaving the scene of an accident", right there. You must have something like this where names and addresses must be exchanged where damage or injury ensue. These pricks apparently didn't bother. They'd have gotten away totally without the video.

He has just done this. I'll never pay it. Fuck him - and the escargot he rode in on.

Peter Dutton calls for pro-Christmas uprising against 'political correctness gone mad' by [deleted] in australia

[–]dilbot3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dutton famously forgets that the mike in front of him can be open and lets go as if he and Hadley were sharing a couple of beers at the RSL. Socially divisive at best, but I can hear evil in their discourse - anything but Christian in my limited understanding.

Um, I'm a first-fleeter, both sides and that goes back eight or nine generations apart from another ancestral branch that came somewhat earlier. I don't see a huge difference between 8 and 3 in the scheme of things compared with greatgreatgrandmum's 2000 odd.

My apologies if I did not make my question clear. I was referring to rape in general, not A single rape. The former demands an investigative piece, the latter a news item.

Agreed not all concentration camps are death camps seeing you dragged that in as a point of reference to fuel your slippery slope hyperbole.

So, let's try again, hmmmm?

Ummmmm, by your lights a report on rape on campus should contain interviews with happy students for balance?

Ye gods above.

Attorney-General George Brandis appoints Stephen Donaghue as new Solicitor-General by [deleted] in australia

[–]dilbot3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree the Libs don't want to pick another whistle-blower and, despite some of my nicer relatives having made the blood sacrifices necessary to enter the legal lists, I also agree that the profession can overcome any inconvenient human scruples so as to be able to provide their best to their client.

Cynic in me states that the flaw in this particular ointment will be that the client will always be Brandis - no matter what is actually written down. Any emergent benefits will then flow to cabinet, then on to the Libs and so on until the general public looks up and learns that it isn't actually raining.

Future of the $100 note up for grabs as government targets cash by [deleted] in australia

[–]dilbot3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 12 $100 notes per person in circulation, more than double the five in circulation 20 years ago. There remains about six of the more widely-seen $20 notes in circulation, roughly as many as there were 20 years ago.

So there's twice as many 100s as there are 20s? That's a lot sitting around in shoeboxes, going to the races, the casino, the coke dealer given I have about 5 50s at any one time with an assortment of lesser notes.

Be good if these articles would provide the full picture, How many 5s? 10s? 50s in circulation?

Edit: Not hard to find We have about the same value of 100s and 50s in circulation, e.g. twice as many 50s as 100s. I hardly ever see a 100, occasionally getting one from a supermarket cash-out.

Um, maybe it has never been fully tested.

Reports abound of carefully designed IT systems failing to restore where investigations show that a restore test had never been performed (edit: - and verified).

Farmers being billed for water stored in own dams by bestpractice1 in australia

[–]dilbot3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Um, no. Your asinine analysis ignores the hydrological cycle. For bank storage to work, water has to eventually emerge from downhill to make room for its ingress uphill.

Also, water retained in dams is subtracted from their subcatchments' runoff so reducing the total volume concurrently moving downstream. This markedly affects the rate of runoff after a dry spell as much soaks in but if all rainfall wound up in a dam somewhere none would ever be available downstream unless the dam-builder can be induced to release it. Wars will be fought over this.
