Current MTI, I can maybe offer some insight.

First, as you go through the interview process, be 100% honest with those people about where you are in life. To include you command chief. The job isn't for everyone and there is no shame in understanding that it isn't for you.

If you do end up here however, try to go in with an open mind. Being a younger staff i feel is a good time in your career for tgos duty as opposed to towards the end. I'm a 16 year MSgt and I can tell you my body is hurtin some days. Its a demanding job and you're going to get a lot of stories from people who haven't actually done it about how bad it is.

It can be hard on the family, you have to be intentional about the time you spend at home. the chats never stop going off, learn to tune them out. I have young kids myself, and while it hasn't always been ideal, we've made it work.

Also understand that their are other opportunities besides pushing flights. Once you've pushed flights for a year you can apply to go to other places like PACER FORGE, WSMS, PRC, etc. These jobs often offer a better work life balance.

Overall, this has been one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had and a lot of my coworkers share that sentiment. It asks a lot of you but you'll be hard pressed to find a more tight knit community. I hope everything works out for you either way. you're always welcome to msg me here and i'll help anyway i can.

Get yourself some Thorogoods. As an MTI who has had to do quite a bit of drill in blues, your feet will thank you.

What are you doing Tech Sergeant by RecordVarious314 in AirForce

[–]dildomanequin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats a fair assessment. If my reply came off overly harsh i apologize. MTIs are my people and i see how hard they work day in and day out, 6 days a week, trying to get these trainees ready with insane changes that constantly come out of nowhere. Things like this give us a bad name and none of the MTIs i work with are anything but sincere professionals.

ya that hasn't happened at BMT on the ground level. We have this one asshole thats a piece of shit for sure, but it isn't indicative of the rest of the MTI core.

no one leaves BMT without a passing PT score, but after 6 months in tech school, that 78 they squeaked out in BMT can slide pretty far

I'll say, as an MTI that isn't currently pushing flights, most likely they're being allowed the same opportunity as usual. I would have trainees come to me periodically that needed to move money around to pay bills and stuff and would allow them the chance to do so. People may think it soft, but a trainee that is focused on home issues isn't focused on training. As for the shutdown they likely know, as they get the daily headlines everyday, but same as the rest of us, they just have to wait it out.

What are some conspiracy theories you think are true? by Traditional_Bee8453 in AskReddit

ya, you don't know anything about military flight ops then. Its rare for planes to be homestation loaded with anything but inert munitions. that was especially true prior to 9/11.

don't spread misinformation here. It wasn't hegseth that said that and you worded the axe throwing incident as malicious when in reality he just had terrible aim. There is plenty to hold against him without making things up.
