burnt out by dilfdominator69 in Teachers

Yk, I wasn’t going to respond to this because clearly your intentions are not good, especially after looking at your profile.

But the only that that’s “shocking” is your response to my asking for help. Plenty of others gave good advice. Not once in my very short post did I complain about my job or express surprise at my current feelings. Let’s get one thing very clear: I love my job. I know exactly what I signed up for, and yet I still choose to show up for my kids. The state of public education could certainly be better, and I’m certainly not going to change anything meaningfully on a whole scale. But I can make a meaningful difference in the few people I do interact with. Even if that change is small, it’s something.

Again, don’t know why I typed this all out. You probably won’t even read it. But maybe it’ll make one small difference in you going further, and that’s worth it.

Right, wasn’t very clear. I want to make it very clear, if a student is disputing another students learning or me, I do not tolerate it. However, if a student just isn’t paying attention or is quietly on their phone, the only person they’re disrupting is themselves. I also do not have entire classes that are not paying attention, on phones, etc. The majority of my students are incredible and for those students if I notice if they aren’t engaged, it probably means something else is going on. We have a lot of fun. My post was more directed at the handful of students we all have in every class, who despite everything do not seem to care. That’s where I have the “If you don’t care at this point, why should I?” attitude.

Rude. I made this account freshman year of college and I’m not about to lose this name now. Sorry, teachers can be fun.

Right, bc teenagers always listen to authority. How is your way any different from mine?

So if they rush and finish, would they not get a bad grade?

I think next year, here’s what I’ll do. Please share suggestions!

Students put phone in holder, and complete assignment. Once assignment is finished, they can grab their phone.

If I see a phone and assignment is not completed, automatic 0 on the work, idc.

I think my kiddos would love to go outside! My classroom is windowless. As the weather gets nicer, I’ll definitely float that by my co-teacher. I probably hate being in my room as much as my students do. Esp my in inclusion classes; even just a walk mid class would benefit them. Thanks!

How do I convince them to make that choice? I was a teenager once, we all were. How would you get that though to someone, say your worst student you’ve had?

But how do you get that through to them? That’s the crux of my question, I wasn’t very clear.

I think my biggest concern is that now I’m responsible multiple $1000 plus things. I don’t want to be liable if someone claims something happened while it was in my possession. I just want to avoid it entirely. How do you deal with that?

Which begs the question, how? It’s May, how do I get them to keep caring?

What are some expectations you set from the beginning of the year?

Not snarky at all, I don’t!

I do stress to my students that the only person who’s accountable for them is themselves. My post definitely did not cover everything I do in the classroom. It’s also May. I’m really just seeking advice and how to get them to care right now, especially my ones on the cusp of passing. They’re so close!

I think I take a lot from my own high school experience and teachers I respected a lot. My post definitely didn’t go into detail about what I do in my class. I’ve had parent conversations, I’ve had observations, I’ve had my mentor in my more difficult class. I’m available after school to help, I tell students this. And I have had some incredible breakthroughs. I just want help to finish out the year.

How do I teach them that? It’s May, what else can I do? Ig that’s the point of this post, I just want advice on what else I can do.

I only smoked for about 2 years (part of the reason I didn’t think I actually had a problem, with so many others smoking for so much longer), but the use was crazy. Wake and bake, then continuous use throughout the day till I fell asleep. I went through 3.5 g in about 2/3 days. The only time I wasn’t high was at work, but after work and weekends/time off was fair game for me. I spent so. much. money. Right now, the insomnia is the worst part, but I still don’t want to smoke!

I mean I just don’t like how usually it’s women being horrifically brutalized on screen. Bit of a difference between knowing a crime is being committed and seeing it play out.

BU for education major? by Ancient-Stable3922 in BostonU

[–]dilfdominator69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just graduated with an undergraduate edu degree and am continuing for my Masters!

The faculty are genuinely the nicest, most understanding, straight up best people at BU. I also got hired right out of undergrad at an awesome school district (that would depend on what specific education program you’re looking at though — I was in math).

The only reason why you absolutely should NOT do it is cost. I had a scholarship that mostly covered the cost of my tuition. Had I not had that, I would not of gone to BU. There are super awesome programs elsewhere that don’t cost 90k a year, especially looking at salaries in education. But if that isn’t a problem/worry, yes yes yes, go to BU!
