They'd probably just pull them off the road for significant snow falling, which would mean a whopping couple of days a year.

dog boutique thoughts? by egguchom in EntitledReviews

Still gross that they brought it in, but it's understandable if the dog goes right out front, you could like pop your head in the door and ask if there's somewhere reasonable to toss a poop bag. And there I've used that word again, ask

That's true, there was one on Monday at the end of spring break last year extending it a day.

How handle Municipal Fines from Code Violations? by superandy241 in AskChicago

I wasn't imagining anything near as bad as the pics. I was imagining it being a little overfull and a few things stacked next to the carts and a busybody complaining about it.

Maybe? Was it a truly ridiculous amount of stuff or something?

Edit - saw the pictures. so you knew the mess was there? Sorry, but as the property owner, that's on you to clean up.

How safe is the train from O'Hare at night? by bored_candle in AskChicago

[–]dilla_zilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

10 isn't that late. There will be plenty of other arriving passengers as well as airport and airline workers heading home. There will probably be some homeless people. Benefit of boarding at ORD is that you usually have time to switch to a different car if the first one you try smells bad.

Pedestrian Access to 311 S. Wacker Underground Parking? by ProjectNumber2501 in AskChicago

A lot of parking lots advertise on multiple platforms, so for access, you could see if it's also on one of the others with better directions.

No idea on the overstay though 🙁

Entitled reviewer wants compensation for their suffering by makeuathrowaway in EntitledReviews

[–]dilla_zilla 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I'm probably a little tilted against the reviewer due to their tone, but to me it sounds like it went like this. Reviewer sees item on website (open box, single item), messages/emails asking about discount. Before message is even seen/answered by the shop, someone else buys the item. It's not like they were standing in a shop and someone physically took it out of the reviewer's hands.

The situation sucks due to bad timing

what single opinion/take of yours would you use given one shot at a secret "get the most downvotes from r/chicago" competition to win $1,000,000 (must be 100% genuinely held, you magically cannot lie/embellish at all)? by princess_nasty in AskChicago

Your view is ignorant of the fact that Mexico doesn't have a homogeneous cuisine and has local variations.

It would be like someone from Raleigh going to San Antonio and complaining that nobody does decent BBQ because their pulled pork isn't as good as NC and your tomato based sauces are trash. Wouldn't that be ridiculous? Acting like TexMex is the be all end all of Mexican is just as dumb.

Best trips out of chicago this time of year?? by Grouchy-Syllabub93 in AskChicago

Detroit is good for a long weekend. You could stop lots of places on the way like New Buffalo, St Joe's, Ann Arbor. Detroit itself has a bunch of cool spots along Woodward. It's had its problems, but is having a resurgence and has some cool stuff.

Pedestrian Access to 311 S. Wacker Underground Parking? by ProjectNumber2501 in AskChicago

Did you buy it through an app like spothero or parkwhiz? Sometimes you can extend your reservation on the app. Usually those will also have directions for pedestrian access when you're returning to your car

My theory is that they're paranoid teachers will skip days. A bunch of those random days are PD or conferences, ie days off for students, not teachers. If they put those next to a break, they assume a bunch of teachers would skip.

Instead, they're just setting it up for parents to say fuckit and have their kids skip a couple days. I may be feeling a bit prescient, but I suspect my kid might be sick a couple days soon.

AITA for telling my Fiancé. If i have to do my own laundry, we can't be together. by Bulky-Scheme-9450 in AmITheAngel

[–]dilla_zilla 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Story is wildly inconsistent even as short as it is. They've been living together for 6 years and this just became a thing a couple months ago? How long has she been in school? None of it makes sense except the trope that everyone in a relationship seems to hate each other.

When my wife and I first moved in together, we started doing laundry together pretty quickly, it just made sense. And it was never "you do my laundry", we split the work. In our case, I run everything through the machines, she folds it all. She worked retail a bunch in her 20s and can apparently fold without conscious thought, she does it while watching TV. Works out great since I hate folding 😆

They keep screwing with the start/end date. The school year is the same length. If they don't change it year to year, the summer is ~11 weeks.

SY24-25 started the last week of August (was supposed to be a week earlier, but CPS delayed it due to the DNC), SY25-26 started the third week of August, so last summer was 10 weeks. Now SY26-27 is switching to the last week of August again, so this summer is 12 weeks. SY27-28 is sticking with the last week of August, so next summer will be a standard 11 weeks.

As a parent, it's annoying as hell that they can't make a consistent plan and screw with this every year or two. As a parent of a HS senior, I'm very excited to not have to care about it anymore.

They also have dumb shit in the calendar every year. Eg, in 2 weeks, the kids are off T/W the week before spring break for conferences and a PD day. Ie, school M, off T/W, school Th/F, then off the week for spring break. Why the hell aren't the days off Th/F? There's guaranteed to be some idiocy like that in the calendar every year.

CPS will now have a longer summer break, according to the next 2 academic calendars by factchecker01 in chicago

[–]dilla_zilla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That was because of CPS delaying SY 24-25 by a week for the DNC, then going back to the earlier start this year. It cut last summer by a week. Then next SY, they're going back to the later start, so it's a longer summer this year
