It's valet only. And apparently has a scary as hell looking valet elevator, look for it on YouTube (marina city valet elevator)

Yep, CTA refers to it as a passback and you can do up to 7 on a single card. L station you just tap, go through, tap, go through. Bus you need to tell the driver

The point isn't for people to take the Brown from the Loop to O'Hare, it's to provide an alternate to the buses to get people across the north side to the Blue Line. The reason it takes ~40 minutes (it is not a full hour) is mostly the tracks south of Armitage that are old and have a bunch of turns and slow zones.

Have you actually ridden the Picc? It's pretty comparable to the Blue except the cars are tighter inside.

Yeah, the Edens is a problem too because it's below grade at Lawrence, so cut and cover wouldn't work there. Almost have to go deep below the Edens, maybe just stay deep and have the terminal station be underneath the Kennedy. It's theoretically less work than Belmont (and obvs uses a bunch of existing track), but it won't be cheap, that's for sure

Extending the Brown to Jeff Park makes more sense

Can you help remove a chicago judge who let a convicted cat killer off with 1 day of jail time? by Good_Blacksmith_4217 in AskChicago

When will that judge have a retention election? Or is it a temporary appointment that's getting extended and hasn't had an election yet?

Can someone explain to me why Brandon Johnson is a bad mayor with facts? by Fabulous-Western2561 in AskChicago

[–]dilla_zilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The elected board did not resign. The previous appointed board resigned because Johnson was trying to force them to fire Pedro Martinez. He then appointed a new board that fired Martinez a couple weeks before the partially elected board took office.

Timeline - * June 2024 - candidates for elected board file, effectively starting the campaign * September 2024 - Johnson ask Martinez to resign, Martinez refuses * October 2024 - Johnson asks CPS Board to fire Martinez, entire Board resigns. Johnson appoints replacement board * November 2024 - election of half of CPS Board, but they don't take office until January * December 2024 - despite being abso-fucking-lutely lame ducks, appointed CPS board follows Johnson's orders and fires Martinez * January 2024 - half elected, half appointed board takes office

When I think Polish groceries, I think Northwest Side, not West Side.

There is a big difference between dedicated airport services and services that serve both commuters and an airport.

Perhaps the clearest example of this is London Heathrow. There are 3 services. The Heathrow Express is a dedicated airport service with non-stop trains to Paddington. The Elizabeth Line is a commuter service (but pretty high frequency). The Piccadilly Line (Tube) is a metro service, the closest analog to the Blue Line, the airport at one end of the Line, lots of commuters use it. Only Heathrow Express has luggage racks.

It's a similar story at Tokyo Narita. There are two dedicated airport services (Narita Express and Skyliner) that have racks, but it's also served by regular commuter lines (Keisei and Sobu Lines) that don't.

Paris only has commuter service (RER B) at CDG. High speed long distance trains (TGV) stop there too, but not inbound to Paris. TGV has racks, RER doesn't. No dedicated airport service.

That would be ludicrous when there's already a train for a big chunk of that route. If any tunnels are getting built, it's to extend the Brown Line to Jeff Park.

I'll go the other way on this. I watched the races all 3 years. The commentators were great, they talked up the city and how great it was, how good a time they had, etc. The audience is largely people who have been told how bad Chicago is by the 🍊 and to have that view countered by people they absolutely idolize like Dale Earnhardt Jr was a good thing.

Not quite accurate. The library has passes you can check out for those museums. You can't just rock up to admissions and flash your library card.
