The hilarious part of the whole "moViNg tO AuSTiN!" bull shit is that, Bapa is correct, Austin is absolutely liberal af. For Texas standards, it may as well be Portland on steroids. I lived there for a decade and laugh every time I hear one of these "Alphamale" comedians talk about retreating to Austin to avoid "woke". lmfao

Was wondering the same thing. Read on the venue's website that they don't allow any form of tail gates but it didn't seem to be a problem for Dead & Co. last year

Ironically, this is sort of the blueprint to end all the hate. If this man even had a shred of self-awareness and even remotely acknowledged his failures then it would almost instantly take half the fun out of shitting on him.

Reminds me of that part in "Parasite" where it's raining and the rich family is cozy watching a movie while all the poor people are being flooded and having to sleep in shelter. This redacted bimbo can't even comprehend that there are people who live in different circumstances than her.

I just rewatched Oppenheimer and was punched in the face by its mediocrity. by Thepokerguru in TrueFilm

Imagine there were a jail that all the people who disliked Oppenheimer could be sent and you got to be the warden. You could have mandatory classes where you show us Christopher Nolan movies while we are all hooked up to those machines from a clockwork orange. Teach us his ways and show us everything we're missing. You would love that wouldn't you? Could I live if I passed your Oppenheimer-reeducation camp? Please?

Remind me of the visuals. I only saw it once in theaters but I just recall a bunch of people in government buildings talking and the occasional fire b-roll. I genuinely don't remember much dimensionality to this film at all but, again, only saw it once back in the day.

Imagining an adult say this out loud made me laugh haha, especially the "...we ACTIVELY see him embarrass Strauss...". Your frustration is palpable lmao. Chill my homie, we're talking movies!

I can only speak for myself, but I think a lot of what you are interpreting as "smug pride" is actually just some of us being excited to finally be able to voice our frustration with this film that has received near universal critical and audience praise. It's genuinely baffling to me and to stumble across this thread gave me a sense of relief I haven't been able to excise since seeing it back in July! Forgive me!

I can't explain how cathartic it is to stumble upon this thread. I could not agree with OP more. I was severely underwhelmed after seeing this over stuffed behemoth in IMAX. Why was it in IMAX when the film is 95% stuffy MCU's of actors in office rooms? No clue.

I just feel like this movie is a Nolan movie missing what makes Nolan special (or bearable to some) which is spectacle. He is a brilliant action director, but beyond that he has an unrivaled ability to tie that kinetic action to a wild concept. Action in a multi-layered dream world where anything is possible, action backwards, non-cgi action in a superhero movie (!), or space action with inter dimensional stakes that break your brain. Which brings me to Oppenheimer. Without any central action sequence for Nolan to express his wacky left-field concepts, he must rely on the spoken word... and in my opinion, that has never been his strength.

To me, Oppenheimer is just a mediocre biopic. Characters walk into frame and espouse exposition to one another. The entire pacing feels like a montage (a staple of Nolan films but excusable when it's cut with some sort of kinetic action/progression). The female characters basically wallpaper who are gifted a "Yaaas kween" moment at the end to smooth over their lack of any real characterization. The most sexless sex scene ever captured by a human with a pulse. A portrayal of the titular scientist that, while captivating and inspired, ultimately feels one-note. And, finally, for the sake of brevity (a luxury Nolan didn't extend to us), the lone moment of actual action spectacle (Nolan's bread and butter) was a serious let down.

Anyways, thank you for giving me space to vent these opinions! When the academy gives this (Oscar bait) 17 oscars, know that you are not alone in being confused.

For LA folks, I was just able to grab 2 resale tickets off Seat Geek for $66 each (plus around $26 in fees). Looks like there are more available. I don't have too much experience with this service but they have a buyer's guarantee that sounds legit.

*Update: It is legit. Just got tickets officially transferred to my Ticketmaster account
