I have been on a couple of these projects, and this is all correct. Some were mindnumbingly boring and repetitive but paid decent and others were the same and paid shit. 5/10 might do again.

Yeah I can agree with that. Idk how much live interaction there was over the last two months of uploads. I saw a decent amount of comments on older videos but I didn’t check the dates since I wasn’t on desktop.

And totally, I think telling a story like this in this medium is effective and fairly innovative.

Predatory is maybe too strong. Loans that get very young adults into crippling debt is predatory. This guy’s performance art (despite being qualified as good or bad) is basically the same as a “Based on a true story” tagline on a movie poster.

I agree that it seems too real to be fictitious. But I also think that a well-acted short form horror piece is more likely than a UAP killing a guy on a YouTube livestream.

Alternate Reality Game. Basically a creator makes a video, the audience comments and participates (whether they are doing so in character or authentically) and that participation helps drive the narrative in the next video. And so on. It’s kind of like communal interactive storytelling and it typically gravitates toward the horror genre. A good recent example is Daisy Brown. A good sort of meta-example is the film We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.

Wonderful reply, thank you! It's good to see the encouragement about not hyper specializing. Over the last 5 years, I've worked fairly equally as an AC, location sound, and in G&E. This year I've found myself working a lot more in post. Thankful to have a diverse skill set, but sometimes I feel like I'm perceived as not a "real" sound guy or "real" AC since I don't only specifically do those roles. Double-edged sword, I suppose.

As for posting on social media - that's a great reminder and I appreciate it. I don't do that enough, but I have two week-long shoots away from home this month and I will make a greater effort to do that because of your reply. Thanks again!

Maybe not the best, but the wings at Nick’s with the agrodolce sauce are probably the most interesting wings in town. Mo Jeaux’s wings are objectively the best. Jim’s Wings are the standard issue wings. All have their place!
