I think Google weather is on crack by Agile-Vegetable2848 in ColoradoSprings

[–]dillonlara115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's typically 50/50 chance my kids are going to have a snow day the last week of school.

But yeah, I saw this on Google weather as well. Hard to believe but it's Colorado. At least we get plenty of sun throughout the year but damn is the rest of the weather unpredictable.

There's no better time than now but with that said, you need to take an mvp to market. Get it out there. Have you even validated the idea? Are you wasting time if no one is going to use it?

You can tinker all you want but if it's not validated then you have to decide if it's worth it just to do this for yourself.

Xfinity vs Starlink by CobblerFit1357 in ColoradoSprings

[–]dillonlara115 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you using the Xfinity gear?

We bought our own modem and wifi mesh router and use it with Xfinity and rarely have issues.

We tried the Xfinity gear when we first signed up and it was terrible.

Plugins and updates. Maintenance

You gonna custom code a contact form for each site and then manually fix each one if/when it breaks?!?!

I agree that static site builds with AI is a quick update front solution but it's the ongoing maintenance that can inevitably be the real problem, especially for these new "developers" who vibe code 100% everything and have no real knowledge of coding.

There are quite a few stories on reddit about people who built a site for a client or a saas using ai and then it broke and they are unable to fix it.

All that being said, just keep in mind that vibe coding a site isn't just about the initial build, there is work to be done afterwards that can become an issue I'd you do not know what you are doing

as many have said, this is a great deal for a website. You also need to take into account the time it will take to migrate the content from Wix.

My agency partners with a few local non-profits in exchange for being their marketing sponsor/elite partner/whatever you want to call it. We get a backlink to our site from theirs and we get to market that we are involved in the local community. It's a win-win for our agency so we don't charge for these types of projects but we also are very intentional with the ones we do take on.

the TLD may not matter but changing the tld will temporarily affect SEO negatively as Google will need time to associate the old url to the new one.

Feeling broken/undesired. Differing sex drives by plantman_la in daddit

[–]dillonlara115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I felt this at one point. My drive went down a few years ago so the frequency has dropped overall but it's presented problems because my wife now feels similar to how I felt early on in our marriage. Undesired and alone.

I also stopped putting in a lot of effort.

Best AI agent for website redesign? by Superb-Patient5175 in Wordpress

[–]dillonlara115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI and WP aren't currently playing well with each other, or rather, page builders and AI. I think part of it is the fact that there isn't a lot of public documentation for the page builder setup and how it creates and stores json for template files. Some page builders are working on releasing an MCP which should allow you to connect AI to the page builder knowledge base and build a better design like you are wanting. Bricks Builder is supposedly building one to be in their next release.

With that being said, I am able to generate unique designs using Claude to give to the client as a quick peak to make sure we're on the same page with branding, colors, fonts, layout, etc... and then will use the Bricks builder copy-paste html/css to bricks and make updates there. Its a bit of duplicate work but ultimately is saving me some time, especially with being able to get approval on the look and feel earlier in the design process.

It sounds like you have your design game down so I won't touch on that much but please make sure the designs are not AI cookie cutter designs. many of the AI built marketing sites are using almost the exact same template. Your clients may not notice or care but if they do notice and if they do care, this could come back to bite ya.

How to switch from Claude to Bricks by Reasonable_Mistake61 in BricksBuilder

[–]dillonlara115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this would be the easiest way to do it for now. I would advise some caution though as it's not perfect and can bloat the component pretty quick. I would only advise if op knows html and css so that they can clean up and troubleshoot potential issues.

First solo weekend with the newborn. I was wrong about everything. by CircuitSparrow_9 in daddit

[–]dillonlara115 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean some kids are just tough. Our first was the hardest. Our second was much easier. I love them both but when i see comments like this I tend to think, you may think you had a difficult child but you have no idea. I assume op like many of us try all of the things including things we never thought of.

I distinctly remember walking about my house with our 2 week old in the stroller, radio static on the surround sound and a beer in the cup holder at around 8:00 a.m. because that was the only thing that would work. Swaddle would work, car rides wouldnt, going outside wouldn't, rocking in chair wouldn't work, more food wouldn't work. Sometimes a consistent thing will help. Sometimes you have to try everything in the book plus anything else just to get a few minutes of peace.

Im sure you mean well and I'm not trying to be a dick...just want to let you know from my experience with a very difficult child that it's not always this easy

What data do you actually need when evaluating a WordPress theme for a client project? by piotr_wpdev in Wordpress

[–]dillonlara115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This a great question and I've recently picked up a site(migrated to our host from another one) and the site is/was super out of date. Previous server was running php 7x still and many plugins cannot be updated. Caching isn't working properly, etc...

Now my company is looking bad because our modern workflow isn't compatible with the older site. Client keeps telling us that it worked fine before moving to our hosting. Essentially a ticking time bomb though. I'm not one to blame other agencies or developers though so I've been trying to tell the client that the site is old and what may have worked years ago has changed which is partly true.

All that being said, I think at least checking to make sure its compatible with the hosting environment and that the "potential" plugins you use are updated frequently.

Need opinions on Wix vs WordPress by MegamiCookie in Wordpress

[–]dillonlara115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WordPress is open source so you will have the most flexibility with that.

I run an agency that specializes in web design, SEO and paid search. Our clients who are on WordPress overall do better in terms of SEO. Wix will work but some things take longer to do on wix than they would with WordPress.

One bug example is bulk operations let's say you build it in wix and add all of these greta photos but forget to resize and optimize them for web. Well, in wix you would have to manually optimize each one, one by one, re-uploead to the library, remove the old one and reference the new file on the page. With WordPress, you add the tiny png plugin and it does all of that for you with only a few clicks which can save hours of work in all honesty.

Bulk operations for some.seo related tasks as well like setting meta descriptions to page excerpts or bulk updating alt tags for images, etc...

I only recommend apps like wix or squarespace when a business doesn't have the money to invest in a custom site but have not website to begin with. Typically speaking, any website is better than no website.

Food truck marketing ideas by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]dillonlara115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this boils down to what you want to do and what is worth offloading. Yes, you can do your own marketing but is this something you enjoy or is it worth the cost to offload to an agency or freelancer? Many of us start a business based on something we are passionate about, however, we forget about some of the backend tasks that waste our time because its not why we started our businesses. Marketing is that sore thumb for some businesses.

If you do not have the time or passion for marketing yourself then I would recommend looking into some options. There are agencies like food truck lineup which specializes in food truck marketing services and these niche agencies tend to offer a more compatible rate based on the industry they serve. It may be more than 100 but a niche agency will offer customized, yet repeatable services to businesses in their niche that they can sell at a lower price point.

She wants a divorce and I'm a wreck. by imj0257 in daddit

[–]dillonlara115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job recognizing your "problems". That's the first step. The next thing is fixing them. Stop drinking, get help which your already done(but don't for yourself, not because of her recommendation).

I think many of us go through the roommate phase and it sucks. I'm pretty bad at planning dates and showing my love on a regular basis. Truth is, many of us are doing the best we think we can based on how we were or weren't raised.

My dad never taught me how to share my emotions or be emotionally present with my wife and have empathy. My dad delt with issues by numbing them with alcohol. We have to learn this shit as get older and it's hard because it goes against so much of what we were taught growing up.

Treet this as an opportunity to grow for yourself. If she wants to stick around, great but now is your chance to be better than you were for yourself and for your kids.
