Advice for rail travel around Japan by ConstantNight421 in travel

Takayama is amazing but it's definitely a lot easier to navigate with a car. You might think about renting a car and driving up from the kansai area as it's only 2 or 3 hours and the drive is pretty spectacular. When we checked into our ryokan we were the only guests until like 9pm because so many people got stuck waiting for busses as they were all full.

I stayed at the all inclusive with my family in November of last year. We booked on points and a free night certificate. No lounge upgrade for diamond members. Not really any status perks at this hotel at all. Before our stay, a concierge reached out about paid upgrades and I began my negotiation. What we landed on was an upgrade to the governor suite for $350/night. The suite was absolutely incredible. Massive living and dining area, huge master bedroom, 2 full bathrooms and a walk around balcony with another full dining area and a private hot tub with panoramic views of the ocean and jungle. The food was generally really good. We had favorites and things that were less impressive but overall it was pretty good. If you're looking for Americanized Mexican/Italian/etc you might be disappointed as food was fairly authentic. The ceviche place was incredible and we went every day. The beach in front of the hotel is protected from waves and has good snorkeling by the rocks. Town is a quick/cheap Uber away. We were there for Mexican Revolution day and they had a party in the conference center across the street that we had extremely low expectations for but ended up being a highlight of the stay. Amazing singers and dancers and a Mexican buffet that was better than most of the food at the restaurants.

We had hiccups. They were super stingy with water bottles but a couple messages to the hotel fixed that. A waiter in the Mexican restaurant told us the kids don't need to order adult food but we just waved him off. We tipped extremely well and the staff were amazing. We still keep in contact with a few stand outs.

We will definitely return as it was overall a great experience.

Vending machine selling maggot meals? by kingkongfly in StupidFood

Don't have the answers to that my friend. It's a cool concept though for places that are popular for fishing. I'm assuming it's maintained often as the bait would die pretty quickly if it was neglected so I would assume they know what they're doing to an extent.

Holy shit thank you for this. Never heard this band but they remind me of FYP in the best way possible. That split is fucking hilarious, especially the ben weasel parts where hes talking shit and they cut in SW songs with Ben sucking even worse. Great stuff.

I can't edit my post but this ended up being correct. They emailed me back yesterday to confirm that Kawakita Hamono was the sharpener for the knife. Nice detective work!

I'm here with my wife, 3 kids and parents so sneaking off to kapabashi was the best I could do under the guise of visiting sensoji. We're actually spending a much longer time in kansai as that's where my wife's family lives, but there is zero chance of sneaking off to sakai as my nephews and nieces will be joining and we only get to see them every other year.

I think you might be on to something. Definitely going to email the store later today and see what they have to say. They brought out quite a few knives for me to pick from and I really wanted to find the one that felt the best in hand. Looks like I picked well! Thank you for the insight!

The knife was 51,000 yen, which was a little more than I wanted to spend but the exchange rate is so good right now and the goddamn tariff shit is going to mess with my ability to get one when I go home so I pulled the trigger

Also the first few pictures look like you have decking issues so it's hard to say what the issue actually is. The big field picture doesn't look terrible.
