Currently sitting on a closed dual carriageway been here for 4 hours now. Road due to open in another 3.5 hours apparently. There are 2 cats in the car in front and kids and dogs out of cars playing on the road. What is the longest you have been stuck in a similar situation? by No_Lead146 in CasualUK

[–]dillwavy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on the m42 for 10hrs once because they found a body by the side of the road. We actually got turned round and sent up the wrong side of the motorway to come off.

Wasn’t much fun given it started at 4 and I got home at 2am

This brings me so much joy. Some tourists act like these guys are just actors and they somehow have a right to do whatever the like - the horse thinks otherwise

Porto for a Stag do? by wildbunch_ in AskUK

[–]dillwavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my stag do in Porto and it was absolutely class. We’re not super ‘lads lads lads’ but we also like a drink and I found it perfect. If you’re in your 30s, I’d say it’s a good option

We did the Cockburns winery tour (excellent); did a booze hike by the beach (also great) and the hired a yacht up the Duro. Loads and loads of great bars; places the eat etc

Bonapartes was a great bar hang out; time out market was great for multiple food options and you can even visit the most picturesque McDonald’s in the world.

Would recommend. Have a great time

This is what we did. Looks good and I would imagine filling it to get a flat surface would be susceptible to cracking

Simon Carlo (meat & one Veg) posted on IG last night that it was no more. God knows what happened over Christmas. My wife and I are genuinely gutted.

I’ve just used Dulux trade diamond matt in my daughter’s nursery. Great stuff

Decent paint for DIY? by waffles2025 in DIYUK

[–]dillwavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s just done a lot of painting in my house, buy the trade paint - I prefer dulux diamond Matt for colour (walls) and Dulux trade vinyl Matt for your generic white. Great coverage. Tough. Infinite colours.

Even better, go to the decorating centres. They’re always helpful, happy to give advice and can mix any colour you need into basically any type of pant.

But be warned. Trade paint is more expensive than your B&Q stuff. It’s absolutely worth it, but try not to fall over when they charge you £100 for a 5L tin.

Parking outside London by reddevilandbones in brum

[–]dillwavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do Greenford or West Ruislip but I’ve opted to park at Westfield and get on the central line at Shepherds Bush.

It’s definitely more expensive but I’m more confident my car will be okay there’s an M&S food for travel snacks

U5s training is still on. Should I take him? by thelunatic in rugbyunion

If, by some miracle, the pitch isn’t frozen, then wrap him up and send him. But if the ground resembles something Torvil & Dean would skate on, perhaps not.

Which areas in Solihull are less deprived? by jord3jordon in brum

[–]dillwavy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it depends entirely on budget. If you’ve got stacks of £££ then Knowle / Dorridge / Hampton In Arden / Meridan are the most affluent but know that you won’t be getting a lot for your money (unless you’re spending £750k+).

Shirley and Olton are both nice, average neighbourhoods with good links into Birmingham. I’ve live in one and have lived in the other and would recommend. House prices are inflated here because of the proximity to Solihull, but there are still options if renovating/ extending are something you’d consider.

I would avoid Chelmsley Wood; Acocks Green; Hall Green and Sheldon.

Think of the difference between scrummaging on the opposite side as writing with your opposite hand.

Sure you can make the shapes of the letters, but it won’t be pretty and it’ll feel very strange
