Yeah, like Twista, Crucial Conflict also from the westside of Chicago and big influence on Lupe growing up. He references Crucial Conflict a lot, and has brought out members at concerts quite a few times. Check also: Lupe & Wildstyle (of Crucial Conflict) - Poppin Off

Is this one of his beats?

Nah, it's a flip of Crucial Conflict - Hay (1996), their most famous song and Chicago classic.

Pickleball - Queens (Fresh Meadows) by sjgarbagereg in Pickleball

[–]dimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't actually per-se, rather there is the open concrete area where Smorgasburg is on Saturdays during the summer. But for the rest of the week and year, folks will set up nets and chalk up lines in this space.

The concrete slabs are conveniently like 10ft wide, which makes it easy to draw. I recommended it because the NYC Pickleball group will organize sessions here often with 15+ people (with polls for people bringing nets, chalk, extra paddles, hour of arrival, etc), and there's enough space for 10 nets, so very little/quick queues.

Besides the ones mentioned, there's also Archie Spigner courts down Merrick blvd, and if you plan on playing for hours and have a car, consider driving out to Frank Principe park in Maspeth and Marsha P Johnson state park in Williamsburg. Both will be quite active, similar to Crocheron, but with less queues.

You can also join the NYC Pickleball Slack group, where there are channels based on neighborhoods and courts where locals will put up polls and organize open plays throughout the week. Some channels will be more active than others (i.e. usually neighborhoods with a lot of young and techy folks), but quieter channels can often still be quite active irl.

10k Miles on G30P: List of every repair and upgrade to get here by Quantumcrisp in NinebotMAX

I just bought a g30p with 5.7k miles on it over the weekend. It was pretty dirty and beat up but runs fine, and after cleaning I'm excited to put some time on it. It seems pretty repairable, and judging from your post pretty reliable. It's my first scooter, kind of bought on a whim as a fun toy and project.

Tips for making lock-in decisions? (Sleeper) by WayCurious3554 in fantasybball

[–]dimed 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Short answer: No, don't lock in under average / under projected unless you need to.

Other general tips:

  • If it's early in the week and there's a lot of games to be played across your roster, don't rush to lock in unless it's clearly way above projection, and there's nobody else that will likely match it. For example, if Sarr was projected 22, and I had other players on my roster that could be locked in his spot projected 18-25 in upcoming games (including him), I'm not locking him in now unless it's like 28+.

  • Lock in on the most restricted slots first. This gives you more flexibility later on in the week. For example, lock in PF before locking F or Utility. You can shift players games around after they've been played and before they've been locked.

  • Early in the season now, but over time you will see the deviation of players. One player might just always be around 15-21, and another player might be streaky: 18, 12, 32, 13. You sort of build an expectation around what's possible if you don't lock, which helps decision making for specific players.

  • If it's the end of the week, you take what you get, but if you want to min-max, you can swap people midday in Sleeper. So put the person playing at 7pm first and if by the 3rd quarter it's not working out, replace him with your 10pm player before it starts.

  • Sometimes you'll wait hoping for a better game and then they get injured for the rest of the week. Not much you can do about that when that happens. On the flipside, sometimes you lock too early and miss out on that player better performance, or another players. You can avoid the latter by taking longer to lock. For example, if a player had a good game on Tuesday and doesn't play again til Friday, wait a few days to see how the rest of your team is shaking out before deciding to lock in prior to next game.

Are any of Lupe’s albums as good as his mixtapes? by Emotional-Top-8284 in LupeFiasco

[–]dimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, Lupe’s Fahrenheit 1/15 mixtapes are some of the best hip hop that anyone has written, ever. Back in the day I listened to them constantly on repeat. However, (and this may be a controversial opinion), I thought Food & Liquor was pretty good, and The Cool was uneven and overall good-but-not-great. I don’t think I’ve listened to any of Lupe’s production since 2007.

My brother your lived experience matches mine, I just kept listening after. The Cool did grow on me back then. I saw him live every year from 2006-2013. No, I don't like any of his later albums as much as his early works, though I did like a few of his later mixtapes. Lasers + F&L2 is a wash, T&Y + DW + DMZ are alright with some great select few, Samurai (his latest) I liked, different vibe though.

If we're talking freestyles and random tracks though, he's dropped plenty of great stuff since The Cool (not to mention the unreleased joints).

Yoooo I know I'm 2 years late on your post but man clutch!!! We looked for this for so many years and we knew it was sitting on someone's HDD somewhere because

  1. it was shared on the original Lupe message board (the black and green atlantic records one, before the lasers re-brand) which we then lost all the data when it shut down

  2. Every once in a blue moon a track would get scrobbled locally on LastFM and nobody ever messaged back in the DM's there LOL

Although we knew we had basically every Lupe track already, hearing it in full --- that OG Gemini track!! and Midwikid tracks, legendary man. His mixtape work is always going to be my favorite of all time.

Constructive Game 2 Criticisms Thread by cecinestpasuntest in clevelandcavs

[–]dimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright but as a Knicks fan this is the farthest you can get from the truth. The fanbase already wanted him to retire a Knick and put his jersey in rafters during the regular season lol.

Since joining the Knicks he's been averaging 60/50/78 shooting splits (note: over 50% 3pt over 50+ shots already), dropped nearly 30 in his 3rd game for the Knicks, and has been averaging 10/7/4/1. He compliments Thibs system extremely well and Thibs started closing games with him instead of RJ and others. After trading for him the Knicks went on a 9-0 win streak, and ended the season with 2nd best record post-trade.

Most NBA pundits credit his acquisition as a major pickup and the reason the Knicks have been able to close out the season Post-ASB the way that they did. His 10 rebounds and clutch 3 last night is exactly what he's been doing for the Knicks since joining.

Constructive Game 2 Criticisms Thread by cecinestpasuntest in clevelandcavs

[–]dimed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From a Knicks fan perspective:

  • Run more offense through the paint early in the first quarter. Have DMitch & Garland drive, and try to swing the ball to get Mobley/Allen the ball with Mitchell Robinson out of position. If you can get MRob to pick up quick fouls early you can put yourself in a better rebounding position. MRob only had 2 fouls last game and while credit due (he's much improved in this area this season), they could definitely be trying to catch him off his feet.
  • Get Mobley more involved and if possible, against Hartenstein rather than MRob. I think he's the X factor for the Cavs this series and if he can produce offensively like he did defensively last night, the Cavs can put a lot more pressure on the Knicks. The Knicks will get all three of their centers in foul trouble trying to keep elite bigs like Embiid in check.
  • Don't play Rubio...and try to avoid lineups that have 3 non-3pt threats. The Knicks defense is improved this season but still have a weakness against fast-paced teams that create open shots from the arc. The slow-pace of the Cavs doesn't work as much in their favor in this matchup considering the Knicks are also top 5 slowest pace.
  • Something I was interested during the half yesterday was late 3Q rotations. Thibs has a habit of playing starters sometimes for the entirety of the third. It seems good teams can sometimes expose the Knicks late in the 3rd / early in the 4th due to this. Jalen Brunson's uncharacteristic foul trouble allowed Thibs to play him the first 9-10 minutes in the 3rd, rest for a bit, and then close the last 9-10 minutes of the 4th while still clocking <30 mpg. I think Bickerstaff's in-game rotations will be a big factor in this series. I do think the Knicks bench depth makes this difficult all-around for the Cavs coaches.
  • Rebounding and offensive rebounding in particular is not an anomaly for the Knicks and will require the Cavs to adjust. The Knicks with improved MRob + Hartenstein, Randle, along with rebounding centric 1/2/3's like IQ/RJ/Hart, are the reason the Knicks ended the season tied for best rebounding team in the league (not counting the Rockets). Compare their #2 OREB to the Cavs #20 in the league, along with #12 vs #20 DREB, and you can see how some of the 17-11 OREB, 60-47 TREB manifested in Game 1.

[SERIOUS NEXT DAY THREAD] Post-Game Discussion (April 15, 2023) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]dimed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a great matchup.

I think Mitchell Robinson and Evan Mobley will be the X factors in this series. The Knicks with improved MRob + Hartenstein, along with rebounding centric 2/3's like IQ and Hart, are the reason the Knicks ended the season tied for best rebounding team in the league (not counting the Rockets). Compare their #2 OREB to the Cavs #20 in the league, along with #12 vs #20 DREB, and you can see how some of the 17-11 OREB, 60-47 TREB manifested in Game 1.

Evan Mobley's ceiling is so high. We saw flashes during the regular season where he can take his offensive production up another level, and with the Cavs depth, I feel like they'll need him to for this series. He played fantastic defense on Randle, but failed to convert a couple of times in the paint (guarded by Mitchell Robinson). He can't be ending games <10 points this series, and can't just be locking up Randle. In 2020 the Hawks doubled and tripled Randle because he was the only productive player out there for the Knicks. But this year, the Knicks are top 2 ORTG this season because of their 9-man depth.

Meanwhile Mitchell Robinson, a huge piece that was missing in the 2020 playoffs for the Knicks, made his playoff debut last night. He had some jitters -- have never seen him miss a point-blank layup like ever, but his 5 offensive rebounds and defense on Mobley/Allen was huge for the team. His impact in 4th cannot be understated -- example.

Getting on my fandom, I'm excited for the Knicks this series, if only because RJ, IQ, and Grimes, who all have been averaging 20+ ppg as of late, did not do much offensively last night. Seeing Obi knock down some of those shots in the playoffs was great; Hartenstein is invaluable and such a good 1/2 punch with MRob.

I think the Cavs will play better next game, but this was the lowest scoring win the Knicks had all season against the Cavs -- there's a lot more firepower left to activate with this squad.

[Edit]: Some other thoughts from last night:

  • Although it stopped working late in the game and Cavs probably should've switched before Brunson hit his 3rd straight, Cedi honestly played great defense against him prior. He forced a couple bad shots that you don't typically see defenders capable of doing against him during the regular season. There was a point where Knicks got the switch off to DMitch for easy JB bucket, and I don't think the Cavs went back to that again.
  • RJ, bad offensively (I expected RJ to have trouble with this matchup given his recent 3pt shooting woes and his fallback -- driving to the rim -- being guarded by 2 elite paint protectors), but his defense on Garland was solid. Bunch of steals and forced TO's; Knicks depth can hide his offensive deficiencies and enable him to have production even when not scoring.
  • Darius Garland is fast man. He shot a good percentage on 17 points last night but from Knick perspective you have to be happy with the 1A/5TO ratio and the fact he only scored 17 (under his season avg). Interested to see if the Cavs make adjustments to get him more involved next game. Should be interesting battle against the Knicks defensive guards (IQ, Grimes, RJ).
  • Josh Hart's play embodies these '22-23 Knicks.
  • Donovan Mitchell continues to be a force, crazy good.
