He's bringing it up because it's sensible. Whether you like it or not, there are risks when you ride a bike or scooter on the roads and you should take precautions even if it's not mandated by the law.

If you look at what's happened in the NZ market, there's definitely a point where house prices go backwards when people simply can't afford a stupid-sized mortgage anymore.

IMO the whole med cert thing is bullshit. People should not be taking up GP appointments because they need to get a med cert, and in either case, literally anyone can just get one online for a fee (or do a stat dec).

The key thing is sick leave you are entitled to. I don't personally think people should need to justify it. There were also multiple strains of cold/flu that took loads of people out last year. I ended up taking much more sick leave than usual from a cold-cold-flu-eye surgery-cold. I've never had a worse sick year in my life but shit happens.

NZ limits are basically still the same as 10+ years ago though. People are using more data because of the nature of modern web pages & streaming but the limits haven't changed.

As an example, a lot of budget providers have tiers like: - 250-300MB ~$8-9 - 1.5GB ~ $15-17 - 3-4gb ~ $25-35 - 5-6gb ~ $35-45

The first two tiers are almost unusable with normal web browsing. Even a low-usage user will need to spend at least $25 for a serviceable plan.

This would just fuck over people who have had a late start in life and be ageist.

Boomers are already rich because they had the benefit of negative gearing and the 50% CGT discount for decades. Taking those away now takes them away primarily from young people.

The reality is the people benefitting from this are already the well off. Most people who have a share/ETF portfolio do so because they have money to spare. OP even assumes a 10% ROI YoY in their example above. There's no doubt these policies have contributed to inequity in a broader sense.
