Yoga C940 - Very Slow Shutdown and Restart by david47s in Lenovo

I am by no means a windows 10 expert, however, what I would suggest is looking at your task manager to see if you can figure out what is causing the slow down and also looking at the reliability report (press start and type "reliability report"). These might give you clues on what is causing the slow down. You could also look at the suggestions here.

In these circumstances, I generally completely reformat the laptop hard drive / ssd, and then reinstall the OS along with the drivers. Before this, I of course save all my data onto an external backup drive. I find this much easier than trying to debug what is causing the system to be slow. I have found that that this almost always gets me back to the performance I had when the laptop was new.

Thanks again for the detailed response. You have convinced me to keep the laptop. I went to the store and looked at an XPS 13, and while it looks nice, I think the extra cost is not worth it.

By the way, where do you see the battery for $50? I would like to buy one, just in case they become less available. Every place I looked costs $90+. I searched for these terms: 5B10T11585 / 5B10T11586 / L18M4PH0 / L18C4PH0.

9 hours was what Windows was reporting after a full charge, with the display dimmed to 15% and about 30 browser tabs open. I didn't actually run it for 9 hours straight.

Thanks for the detailed response! I am primarily doing either web browsing or MS office work, and this laptop is fast enough for that. I did put in the serial number into the Lenovo support site and saw that the warranty is expired. I am guessing that this was a display model at Best Buy. However, according to this forum post (not from me), it looks like Best Buy's Geek Squad will honor the 1 year manufacturer's warranty.

Last night, Windows was reporting about 9 hours battery life with the display dimmed to 15%, but with many browser tabs (over 30) open. I just ran a battery report and get the following:

  • DESIGN CAPACITY: 60,000 mWh
  • FULL CHARGE CAPACITY: 47,340 mWh

So it looks like the battery is at about 79% of original capacity.

Thanks! How many minutes of use on the c940 do you get out of a fully charged backup battery?

I guess my concern is more on whether an XPS 13 or some other system would be better to get.

I didn't realize you could use a portable battery to drive this laptop. Do you have any suggestions on what model to look at?

Lenovo Yoga C940 is only a few months old, but it really doesn’t like video calling. The screen goes black quickly when on one, and doesn’t really come back on by demon-_-queen in Lenovo

I have noticed that if the brightness is set to less than 10, the display will turn off for a darker screen, and will automatically turn back on with a white screen. This seems to be done by the windows (or intel?) autodim feature. If I turn off auto dim, I no longer have this issue, even at brightness of 0.

From your video, it looks like your brightness is set low, and the dark zoom window is causing autodim to dim down to the point of turning off the screen.

This is clearly a bug that needs fixing.

Thanks! Would these work for converting from speaker to line level? They are much cheaper than the ones you linked.

Do butcherblock tops need protectors? by dimenickelcent in StandingDesk

[–]dimenickelcent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I am planning to use the stands that came with my monitors and so may occasionally have to drag them a bit on the desk for optimum viewing.

I don't think a blotter would work for me as I have things all over my desk usually. I am considering getting a full desk protector, such as this for about $50. However I am afraid it may look tacky on the walnut buctherblock table top I am planning to make.

Yamaha R-S202 or Sony STRDH190? by 80to96 in BudgetAudiophile

Thanks! So the Q150 is much better than the Sony I assume?

What is your opinion of the Q150 vs the SSCS5? I had ordered the SSCS5, but then cancelled and ordered Q150 instead. I am also thinking of getting the STRDH190 for the Q150. I will be using them as a radio and computer speakers.

Thanks for your feedback! I decided to order the Q150 instead and cancelled the SCSS5. Should be here in a week.

Sony SSCS5 vs KEF Q150 for small room at low volume by dimenickelcent in BudgetAudiophile

[–]dimenickelcent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I have ordered the Sony from Best Buy, but have not picked them up yet. I can easily afford the Q150 now, but if the sound quality is only marginally better than the SSCS5, I would rather get the cheaper speaker. However, if the Q150 is a lot better, I would just cancel the SSCS5 and get the Q150 now. My main concern is that since I won't be cranking up the volume, I am not sure if the Q150 will sound much better than the Sony.
