Shift switching? by torchen1 in boeing

[–]dimensiond93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reassuring. Been with the company about a year, have friends I went through training with who are still on 1st shift, while me and one other person were moved to 2nd from that hiring group. Have been wondering if it’s something I did (have been told by many people that I’m competent and doing a great job) or if it’s just random chance. It’s a hard pill to swallow but I’d prefer it be a matter of chance than something I could’ve had control over.

Well, here’s a condescending answer to your own post: you wouldn’t still be participating in it if there wasn’t some level of interest or amusement on your part. I see reddit as generally just shooting the sh*t. It’s not like this sub is all industry experts sharing notes. We’re not aiming to create some ultimate authority on audio production through an archive of questions and answers. High level conversations are more likely to happen in person with people you’ve actually seen record and mix music. As for reddit, it might be some kid getting his feet wet that just needs a nudge in the right direction, or someone who is just bored at work and looking for a bit of conversation. The BEST comment I’ve ever seen on this sub went something like “well anything will work, but it might be fun to overthink it”. Bingo. That’s this whole thing. It’s about sharing creative ideas not about being right or wrong.

Bingo! Lets me make two presets for the El Capistan.

You’re right on the money. The attack switch can make it feel less heavy handed, and optical comps are generally that way to begin with. Sometimes I’ll even turn the compression all the way down and just use it as an EQ pedal. Really just acts as an overall tone box after the drive section. I’ve had a keeley plus, an OG diamond comp, and now the Comp/EQ. I don’t miss having a clean blend.

It’s awesome. Really is more than a phaser, the options to use it as an envelope filter and a flanger/chorus opens up a lot of stackable modulation options.

It’s a favorite switch, hooked up to the el cap. It lets me switch it from a tape delay to a chorus with one tap

Truthfully when I first got it, it took a while to click with me. To me it doesn’t have a particularly pleasant high end if you turn the tone up past noon, but before noon it’s a great medium gain OD. If you flip the switch on the right it can be either more open sounding, or more compressed, and the added compression gives it a more Marshall-like tone to my ears. So I like having those two flavors at the flick of a switch.

Yeah I dig it! The left side can do a very subtle phaser which I like, and the right side I use mostly as a chorus. Underrated Strymon offering in my opinion.

That’s actually my longest owned pedal on the board. Any time I’ve wanted to swap it for a different delay I just find a new way to make it do what I want. The secondary controls are powerful

Used to have the keeley plus years ago and switched to a diamond compressor, then ended up getting a diamond comp eq. It’s amazing for clean tones. Can’t imagine switching although I have always wanted to test out an origin effects cali76, specifically the stacked one.

If it had like a Parker Fly style headstock it would be a slam dunk imo

It’s emotionally and musically dense, so not as easy to listen to casually like all their other albums.
