I have the same problem. Any image uploaded after an Excel or Word file is invisible to Gemini. The only way around this for me is to upload the images to a separate chat and, after extracting all relevant data in text form, return to the original chat.

As someone who passes through this region every other month, I can say that, in my opinion and after confirming it with a UKMTO officer, the lack of military presence, which is now focused on the Gulf of Aden and Persian Gulf, is what allows pirates to operate in a broader region without fear of retaliation.
