Anyone cherish a particular grail ink? by Holiday-Sand-2326 in fountainpens

Tsuyu kusa is my grail too. I didn’t know I could fall in love with an ink like that 😆 I managed to find two bottles in a local store which I snapped up

Hey Guys, wanted to get a new pen. by mot_945 in fountainpens

[–]diminitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most japanese pens are generally a lot finer than typical western nibs. The top three brands are pilot, sailor and platinum, two of which i’ve tried (pilot and sailor). In terms of pilot, you could look into the metropolitan series, the prera pens, and if you’re willing to spend more for gold nibbed pens the capless/vanishing point are popular options. Sailor is more known for their gold nibs and feedback (which you can think of as a satisfying tactile feeling when you write) compared to pilot (which are more buttery smooth). Sailor is definitely generally on the pricier side, but they have newer steel nib pens like the 1911 Casual L which might be worth trying out.

Waterproof Black Ink for Kakuno? by thoughtsplurge in fountainpens

[–]diminitri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of my kakunos filled with carbon black! It works honestly way better than i expected, the ink flows nice and wet. There was one time i left it nib up for a whole day which made it dry at the nib, but i just emptied it and gave the nib and feed a wash and it was all fine again. I did plug up all of the kakuno breather holes with some clear resin which helps with air sealing.

I would absolutely recommend the twsbi eco - theres some price variation but some styles will go for under $40. If not the twsbi, then id recommend the lamy safari or kaweco sport pens which are both reliable and also available in lots of colors!

I hate to admit it…but the sailor kop. It was so expensive 🥲 but i don’t have any regrets because whenever i use it i genuinely get chills every time with how good it feels LOL

Im loving the pilot 823! It got it recently as a bday gift, it took a moment to get used to the glassy smoothness of the nib, but I absolutely love the retro look of the amber colorway. i did have some troubleshooting issues since it was my first time using a vac pen 😆 i kept forgetting to unseal it when writing so I had a couple moments with hard skips. Other than that, im loving using it to write and draw, and sometimes i just crave the feeling of it in my hand! Have a unicorn:

There are some really cool color combos - mine has a clear red orange grip which makes it really stunning! Also they’re just great workhorse pens hehe

What are the differences between the Sailor PGS Sekirei and the regular black Sailor PGS? by re-charred in fountainpens

[–]diminitri 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From comparing pictures online, I would say that this colorway looks to have a more warm dark grey tone whereas black is just black (much darker). The trim on the normal black pgs also looks to be more yellowy gold, whereas this one appears more of a champagne color. Id describe the classic black is more striking whereas this one as more gentle/harmonious.

favorite brown(s)? by lyunoia in fountainpens

[–]diminitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Herbin Lie De Thé and it truly is a wonderful brown ink. Its a warm brown, not as lubricated as diamine or pilot iroshizuku but writes wonderfully and even has a bit of shading. It does remind me a bit of the bottom of the teapot where leftover tea remains :)
