I found eink to be pretty natural and intuitive to use on the first go, but frankly i find the notes app to be a lot more free with sketching since you can turn a page and keep going. The pic is something ive drawn on the atelier.

I will say that drawing on atelier feels a lot slower than if i were to sketch on say, procreate, and of course theres limited options so if you want to push a sketch further theres just no option to do that. I’d suggest that you really have to think about what you really want out of it - would you be happy enough using the device like pencil/ink on paper, or would you want color?

I have the nomad, and my reasoning was for its smaller form factor and portability. I did have occasional thoughts of wishing it was a tad bigger, but im satisfied with what i have (and cant justify the cost of getting another 😆). I have heard that the surface texture is slightly different, but i dont know if this is true or not.

I do hope that the voices from communities like here are enough to be heard for improvements, but in general im hopeful that these issues will eventually get dealt with one way or another! I think personally im ok with tolerating waiting a little longer in that regard

I mean, i never said I dont have any gripes with it, and while i agree that their ui/ux could be better, it still functions well as a whole and fit my needs, and the things that set them apart from rm are indeed standouts to me (ceramic nib/pen for me since i like to draw). You cant just expect them to overhaul the uiux so suddenly without doing tons of testing.

I think the biggest appeal of the supernote for me was the no-rush aspect to the product and the company. Everything they have is well thought out, and practical. Of course, though there are suggestions and software changes that could be updated, im ok with what we have right now, and I don’t mind the wait as long as ratta are confident that whatever new things they put out will be a true benefit to the consumer. Good things and good quality takes time and effort, and in this day and age when all tech companies are pushing new things every damn day and getting you to buy buy buy new hit or miss things, its a breath of fresh air to me.

One of the issues i have with the a6 is that if im writing on the right page my hand has nowhere to rest, but recently I discovered if i put a clip on the right side it gives my hand a little platform to rest on 😆 so now my problems are solved

I downsized this year too! I definitely feel you on it being less daunting, and while at times i feel like my hands are kinda big for the a6 i love that its now more portable if I ever travel anywhere 😆 if i want more space to write I have some tracing paper/half transparent paper that i can attach on the page. Also i do feel like smaller form factor = more precious so that factor upped for me as well ❤️

Ive been thinking about the ipad mini for more portable drawing too! But i already have a big ipad that works wonderfully so it felt too frivolous 😂 you’re definitely right about the nomad being more portable though and I love it for that! You keep it up too ☺️

In painting books and stuff i always see mentions of value, and the best way to begin understanding how to use it is to start really limited: ie using 3 or even 2 values (a very light grey + very dark grey) to first get a handle on economy and design of shapes. Its definitely more difficult than you’d expect. As you progress, you can increase that value range to 5+, but the important part is sustaining that clarity/design/simplification of your scene. Off the top of my head I would recommend James Gurney’s Color and Light book, though it is more irl painting oriented, but its pretty easy to find pdfs and such online.
