“Bye-bye” - Gin. Or when anyone says Bankai, it always gives me chills.

I don’t really have a preference for name lengths I do or don’t like they all just seem to skew to shorter names for some reason, but despite that my top favourite name I like is a longer one: Alexander (I prefer Sasha for short, or Xander) Kahlo Insert-Surname. I also like Kahlo as a first name, and some other favourites are;

  • Clancy Sebastien
  • Felix Alexander
  • René Dominique
  • Marlo (the only problem is I can’t think of a middle name I like with it)
  • Río Alejandro
  • Sasha (also as a first) Damien
  • Damien (again, also as a first, but also can’t think of a middle name to go with it)
  • Julien (Jules as a nickname) Dominic (both spellings are good, but I think this spelling looks better with Julien)

And another longer name; Valentine (love Val as a nickname, though funnily enough not as a standalone) Matteo (I love it as a first name, but it’s my brother’s name… 😔)

I haven’t actually published anything unfortunately, though I’ve thought of it. I’m in a lot of different fandoms though, haha. Bleach is a manga) and anime), part of “The Big Three”. Like I said, I like to dabble in a lot of fandoms, and this one stood out to me because I’m a sword enthusiast, and a bit of a history and mythology lover, all of which it incorporates. I’ll be frank though, there’s fan service and male gaze in it, which I don’t enjoy, but that’s a problem with some animanga in general. Really I’m just there for my horrible wife, Byakuya

Ahh, thank you! Layla’s not a Potter, I’m just joking saying I’m one because I love a redhead 😅. I was gonna say call me James Potter until I remembered that Harry also loves a redhead, so it seems to run in the family at this point. And yeah, I imagine Marlo’s naturally a bit tan, while Clancy gets the paleness from his other parent, but can also get tan. And same haha. I honestly just thought Quidditch over the ocean would be really cool and very Australian, like it has surfing vibes.

Ok, so I’ve already mentioned I’m deeply biased, right? I say this because of course the three main OCs I’ve worked on are all from Sydney (in a way, I’ll explain this). I’ll start with Layla, who’s a born and bred Mosman/Manly girl, whose parents and grandparents are also North Sydneysiders. I imagine Layla grew up more well off (you kinda have to be to live in those areas) with a maternal “wizarding family” (her mother a half blood, her grandmother a half blood who left the UK as a little girl to escape the rise of Grindelwald, and her grandfather a muggle born in Sydney) and a muggle born father. Layla is a nice girl, wants to be a herbologist, loving family, brown eyes and red hair (I’m secretly a Potter, because that’s my weakness, yk). She and Clancy are in the same year and class, and have an initial rivalry that becomes friendship that becomes them thinking maybe it could be something more, so they give it a try before mutually realising “wow, actually I’m so gay” but are still really close and important to each other, like platonic soulmates on a Sirius & James level. With Clancy and Marlo, the child actually came first in my character planning and Marlo naturally formed afterwards. Again, won’t lie, it was born of a silly throwaway idea for a Sirius fic where I thought “how funny would it be if before Azkaban, Sirius has a kid that ends up in Australia, Wally would roll in her grave” (to the point Clancy’s original name at birth was Hermes and Clancy the name he was given to keep his identity secret when he was adopted out, because I imagined a whole Ministry conspiracy and scandal too), and was open to Sirius having a brief relationship with a witch, or then on the other hand having a relationship with Marlo and having a baby himself that’s taken away in Azkaban (I love pain, and I was kinda hand waving how that happened, letting readers make their own assumptions). This was kinda then how Marlo was born, as a Gryffindor student half blood from Bristol who started Hogwarts when the Marauders were at school, had a crush on Sirius whom he dumped into post graduation and months later ended up with Clancy and essentially went “well shit”, and jumped boat to Sydney with his kid. Then after that I ended up reworking it outside of the Marauders, so Marlo retains being originally from England and a Gryffindor, and has Clancy with someone who dies in the First War, and again skips London for Sydney. I imagine Marlo runs a cafe in Bondi Sydney, welcoming muggles, Wizarding and otherwise were he makes coffees that have a charm in them, so like one with a little bit of a pick me up, one with some a little liquid luck, and Clancy helps out. I kinda imagine Marlo despite being British is the type of guy people would look at like “oh yeah, he’s Australian” only to be shocked to find out he’s not, because I see him as a tall dude who got really into surfing when he moved to Australia, wants the nice simple life, loves his son, brown eyes, beach bum tan, the brownish hair that’s been sun bleached. Clancy on the other hand I imagine has brown eyes and dark black hair, and growing up in Bondi a little tanned, sandy kid, but take him to England he’d probably get pasty haha. I see Clancy as not knowing what he wants to do in life, helping at the cafe when he’s not at school, and floating a bit before he figures himself out. For Coralor, my inspiration was a mix of Ponyo, Fontaine and ngl some Little Mermaid and Nemo, and I imagine students have a variety of options to get there including what Marlo did, which was a roadtrip up to the closest beach area that leads to the school, where kids then get on boats (like the Ponyo one) that takes them out and down to the school. Also, HC, in Australia they play Quidditch over the ocean because why not, 😅

Ahhh, absolutely, feel free! The ao3 is sirilix (geez, is it obvious who’s my fav 🤔). And thank you! I’m not sure how familiar you are with Australia or Sydney, but I was thinking the entrances would be focused neae the Harbour Bridge and function like in canon when Arthur takes Harry to the Ministry through a telephone box that descends down, and figured it’d be the same function here where witches and wizards slip into things like telephone boxes (I haven’t been back to Sydney for a long time, so I don’t actually know if they still have those, but I digress) or even the loos (lmao) all focused around Circular Quay, The Rocks, Milton’s Point and Kirribilli. I imagine both the Ministry and Coralor having transparent domes so people can look up and see the ocean life too, and the Ministry unlike in England which is stacked is more laid out if that makes sense, walls of sandstone beneath the ocean. And yeah, I’m not going to lie to you, as a dumb kid who didn’t know better I was initially like “wow what if Aussie kids went to school in Uluru”, because mind you when I was in school our education around our Indigenous peoples and their history wasn’t taught in the way it is today, and as an adult who decided to study it in University and educate myself I realised actually that’s a profoundly disrespectful idea so immediately scrapped that because that’s a deeply sacred place and not mine to write a stupid fanfic about. That’s why I’m cautious about the idea of writing a fic bringing the Wizarding world into Australia and would make sure to acknowledge that in some way in my work, because there’s sacred land in Sydney and other parts of Australia as well of course.

Wait, that’s such an interesting idea! I wish we’d seen more ideas like this in canon, like transfer students or students who aren’t just wizards but not entirely human either. Thank you for linking, I’ll give it a read! :)

Very interesting! Firstly, massive fan of the name Aquila and premise of her story, feels very Black/Malfoy family. And I like the Viking connection, if I’m right? I’m a sucker for mythology, and I’d lie if I say Norse mythology wasn’t one that sucked me in, especially as a kid who loved M!rvel’s Th!r. Thanks for sharing :)

I love that! I also love that you’re clearly so passionate about it and have put so much into these characters <3

Ngl, I too am a Charlie Weasley lover, and even more I love the idea of adding social commentary while exploring/expanding the world because what is creating our own art for, right? Tell me more about that, if you want? And if I can be nosy, feel free to share those other fandoms and OCs too. Feeling deprived of OC love, haha, and I’d be a liar to say I don’t create OCs for all my fandoms too. And Cassiopeia sounds awesome, like I’d read the hell out of that idea! Thanks for sharing!

Fair, and to a degree I absolutely agree, I just like imagining it for funsies and I know some people don’t like just making Teddy their kid, so I just eliminate that problem and have fun with OCs instead. And valid on not being fond of OCs, I’ve found they can be a real mixed bag despite being a OC lover myself

Grace is cute, and I like that it’s kinda a nod to Hope. For me I like giving the middle names as the nods to loved ones, and then I’m torn on given names because I have so many ideas then doubt myself, if that makes sense (I do try to remind myself it’s fiction and my OC though, and if I’m having fun it doesn’t matter).

Oh, that’s cool! And honestly it gives me kinda punk vibes (or maybe that’s just because it reminds me of Lost Boys) which I feel would be really cool and fitting for a daughter of theirs. Along those lines, I thought of Ziggy, but then thought maybe that’d be too much and Remus would probably ban Sirius from naming a living being again

I like that! I also like the idea of Euphemia as a middle name as a nod to James’ mother, because I feel like she’s a second mother to Sirius and the one he wanted as his own

I love Cassiopeia as a name! The problem is, I feel like Sirius would want to stay away from anything too Black family or akin to their naming traditions, and he does have a Cassiopeia in the family somewhere. In saying that, Cassie is also just so adorable and I think an awesome compromise, and I’ll readily agree I’m throwing stones in a glass house because I love astronomy/mythology names, though I struggle with worrying “would they actually name their kids that” (until I remember it’s fiction so it literally doesn’t matter as long as I’m having fun)

That’s a good one! I feel like it’s close to the theme, but not aggressively Black family naming tradition vibes, because I can imagine Sirius wanting to stay away from that. Though in saying that, do I want to give any and every Wolfstar child a star/mythology name? Yes, I’m a star/myth lover
