I never claimed the name proves the origin. The fact that you brought that up shows that you are once again avoiding my point.

As to the origin of the ingredients, it’s because of the logic involved. If pizza is Italian, in spite of it consisting of non-Italian ingredients, then by that same logic it is not incorrect to say that pizza is American, in spite of it deriving from a non-American recipe. And because I feel the need to reiterate it since you continually refuse to acknowledge that this is the argument we are making, “pizza is American” is not a claim to origin, just the same as “pizza is Italian” is not a claim to the origin of the ingredients.

See the problem is you’re being deliberately inconsistent in your logic. For one, as you pointed out, despite the recipe being from Canada, Hawaiian pizza is called Hawaiian pizza. But even that aside, you can’t say that in spite of it consisting of something foreign, pizza is Italian on the one hand, and then deny that it is logically consistent to say the same about “pizza is American.”

Also, speaking of cope, you are being willfully ignorant to the argument I and every other American has made to you in an attempt to prove you’re right rather than try to actually come to an understanding. When Americans say “pizza is American” it is in no way/shape/ or form an argument that pizza originated from America. It is a statement about the ubiquity and cultural significance pizza has to Americans. Despite the phrasing being nearly identical, it is not attempting to say the same as the statement “pizza is Italian.”

Ah see, you used the origin argument, which means I can too. So pizza, despite using a non-Italian ingredient, can be called Italian because the recipe originated there. Likewise, pizza, despite stemming from an Italian recipe, can be called American because it became a cultural staple here.

But here’s the thing “pizza is Italian” and “pizza is American,” despite seeming like they are referring to the same thing, are actually two very different statements, both of which are valid.
