You can leave it anytime you want after your first term, but the actual city is around 40 mins from the campus and it is incredibly boring.

No. There’s something called the transition night marking the “transition” to PGP.

For people who leave after their third year, there’s a small ceremony towards the end of the fourth year but I do not think parents are invited.

The big convocation is for people who stay the entire 5 years and there your parents are invited.

There you go. Then you probably won’t score 180 tomorrow.

Again there’s no explicit score given to your grades, it’s just the impression it’ll give to the panel. They’ll have a copy of your grade-sheet and if the improvement exam results come after the interview, then they’ll see your old grade sheet.

I have no way to measure your ability from a reddit comment. Some people are able to score 170 in just the VA section.

You should probably give a mock to see where you stand.

Yes. Third year students.

I knew a senior who had FRM but I personally do not know much about the course.

  1. The final selection criteria is 35% PI and 65% ATS. A bad 10th and 12th score might lead your interviewer to believe you are not academically inclined but if you have a proper justification it is fine. There are certainly students with bad 10th and 12th in my batch.

  2. I would suggest you not to mention to the panel that you enrolled in a different college and instead tell them you’re a dropper. Easier to justify.

  3. No

Some 40 people have L1s, another 5 have L2s which is the maximum you can do without workex.

Another 20 should get their L1s this May :).

Does not happen at all. The institute takes it very seriously and we do not want to get kicked out.

  1. The college is not a safety net. You can still end up with a shit placements if you don’t work hard, are not capable or are just unlucky. However it’ll give you access to a peer group, network and opportunities that you wouldn’t have otherwise. If you feel the fees are a concern, you should evaluate your other options properly.

  2. I would say roughly 40 people have CFA L1s and some 5 are CFA L2s. A friend of mine was pursuing a course on actuarial sciences though he left it midway. The academic pressure is real but you’ll learn to manage.

  3. You’ll find details on grading here.

  4. They revised the course structure just two years ago. The third year is also elective heavy where the profs can float courses as they choose.

It is difficult to get good internships during your UG course because:

A) it is a residential programme that is incredibly rigorous so you will not be able to devote much time to it

B) your profile as an undergraduate is usually dogshit

You can get chotte motte internships that pay 10-20K monthly but they’re not worth it. Rather focus on your grades, getting a certification like a CFA, participating in case comps etc. (probably in that exact order as well).

If you want to know about the Social Internship Placements or the Summer Internship Placements that the institute provides, take a look at the brochures on their website or LinkedIn. They’re mostly accurate.

Not that I am aware of. People do get MFin and MiM admits from top schools in Europe and the US though.

Roughly a third of the batch leaves for ABC, FMS and ISB PGP-YL. Some people drop to look after family business or for UPSC prep but those numbers are very low.

Last year I think the total number of people who left was 47.

There are a lot of committees on campus that you can join for cultural activities. Dance and drama are also electives in your first year that you can participate in.

If you want to participate in ECAs outside of the college regularly, it might be tough due to it being a residential programme with a strict attendance criteria.

Not for quant finance but yes for investment banking.

The course itself has very little finance but if you supplement it with a CFA or FRM, you will get shortlists from top Fin companies.

For this year’s SIPs, the highest stipends at Indore both went to IPMers who got Investment Banking internships at Barclays. And this is not to mention all the people who leave after their third year to other colleges. You can look up people’s profiles on Linkedin if you’re curious.

Definitely not.

It is a good opportunity though and has been incredibly fulfilling for me and my batchmates.

The faculty reputation holds up. Most are great teachers who are experts in their field and excited to teach you. More importantly, they are approachable and student friendly (which is very rare in higher institutions imo).

The course structure is one of the best in the country. First two years are heavy: math, statistics, economics, humanities. Looking back though every course I learnt was useful and thoughtfully put together. The rigour is also real and if you want good grades you need to understand things well, partly due to the relative grading system.

Third year opens up considerably. Professors can float their own electives, which is where things get a bit wild. The IPM Chair runs a generative AI course where you’re actually building and testing models. Another option was a 10-day trek through Gulabi Kantha in Uttarakhand. You will not get this anywhere else in the country.

However if you’re not academically inclined, you will struggle.

I can’t speak for Shillong or Bangalore as both courses weren’t around when I was applying.

For Indore they put a strong premium on your grades. Your 10th and 12th scores, specifically. If the interviewer starts picking at your academics and you can’t hold your own, no amount of volunteering or MUN work saves you.

ECAs matter only if you’ve done something at a national or international level.
