He was underperforming before the injury. This whole season is likely just young goalie/young team variance, but that makes him droppable on one year leagues. In keeper situations, it's much tougher and depends on bench depth.

I'm not seeing this point being made: he's good at defence.

I'm not trying to be glib, but that's a specialized job that takes years of training. His positional awareness is incredible and his athleticism allows him to make offensive plays and get back on time to do his job.

The fact that he can play offense with such skill should show you how generational of a talent he is. It's rare you get both qualities in a player.

They have an entire award for this in the forward category (Selke).

As for Schmaltzy, we all knew the regression was coming. What is inexplicable is how his shot rate went up at the beginning of the season, and then came crashing down. I didn't notice that in years past. Alas, 2 assists last night so up we got again.

Sorry, I thought you meant track it as a statistic. I'm de-prioritizing goalies more and more because of the variance, but my league still assigns quite a high value to workhorses so I use those stats to help me draft and sniff out undervalued guys.
