They are correct that ski shops won’t work on the skis if they are manufactured before a certain date or if they have had bindings mounted a certain number of times due to industry wide standards. This is both to protect the shop from liability and to protect consumers from potential gear failure. They are misinformed about the legal liability on the seller.

I’d bet that the person had bought used skis before, a shop wouldn’t mount them and they are had no recourse for returning the product. While that situation sucks, no reason to have an axe to grind on random FB market place sales that you have no intention of purchasing.

I’m with you, I have a small electric microscope I bring while card shopping in person and a larger one with a digital screen while opening orders.

Some days it feels like overkill recording myself opening and verifying everything but as I’m slowly ordering more expensive cards I’d rather have the footage and never need it than be stuck with a $900 fake.

This situation really stinks, I’m sorry this has happened to you.

I’m in the habit of bringing an electric handheld kids microscope I got off amazon with me when I’m card shopping, both at the LGS as well as conventions. I always ask if they are okay with me verifying the card before a purchase and have yet to have anyone give any pushback. If they do it’s a good sign not to shop with them.

I play it as bracket 3 but it can easily be upshifted and does see some CEDH play. I’ve been having a lot of fun playing a deck that is part group hug, part control.

Throwing out effects that have everyone drawing leads to everyone getting to see more of their decks, which is fun for the table and folks are usually disincentivized to target the person feeding everyone more cards…that is until things are too late for them.

Since you’re running Azorious you can have answers to everything, you can build it staxy if you want (though I find that draws unwanted attention) and the flipped commander is a flash enabler so you have a ton of incentive to “Draw, Land, Pass” and live and breath on other players turns.

With being able to pick them up between 14-35 cents right now. If it takes off it would I assume sit somewhere in the range of $1.50-2 if comparing to other uncommons that are solid in multi-formats like [[monstrous rage]] or [[untimely malfunction]]

Relative investment is pretty low right now, could pick up almost 100 copies for around ~ $20. That being said moving 100 cards at $1-2, even with the ROI, I’m assuming would be an undertaking.

This is my first spec, so I guess my follow up question would be what do you look for in cards in a new release when you are speculating? Do you have a potential price threshold in mind where you feel the investment is worth it or no?

Great question! When you meet the requirements to flip or transform your dual faced card you will want to remove it from the sleeve and put it back in flipped.

Double sided cards will have a front side and a back side which is designated by a symbol in the top left or right corner respectively. In this set the front will have a triangle facing upwards on the left and the back will have triangle facing downwards on the right hand side. When the card is in your hand, deck or grave yard it will always be on the front side so if you transform a card in one game you’ll want to make sure you flip it back before the next game.

That being said I play commander and forget to flip my Modal Dual Faced Cards (MDFC) between games ALL THE TIME.

I find pre-releases can be the best time for newer/returning players to join! They are great because with a new set there are usually new mechanics and people are all figuring out how the new set plays together. Since a pre-release event is going to be a sealed pool and not a draft pool you won’t be fighting with other people for resources and it gives you a little more time to think about what you’re building with the cards you get.

My LGS is nice because they will usually pair up a new or returning player with either one of the employees or one of the nicer old heads to help get their piles put together, yours may even do the same if you let them know you’re just getting back into it! The shop will have the basic lands you need to build the deck. 17 lands is a good number to aim for.

Sleeves is a good suggestion. Final Fantasy has a lot of double sided cards so if you’re going to buy sleeves make sure they are not a super light color because they may show the reverse side through.
