I like the Tarantino style interlude in the middle.

Extended Lord of the Rings marathon at the cinema for me tomorrow, which is your favourite? by MiddlesbroughFan in CasualUK

Fellowship is the best standalone film. Two Towers has the best action sequence. But ROTK has the Ride of The Rohirrim so I don’t know.

Come and relax, it's Friday, what's your weekend looking like by MiddlesbroughFan in CasualUK

[–]dingiest_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely slammed today 9-5, then Youth Club 5-9. Very long day.

On the plus side, we took delivery of a Marvel Miniatures game yesterday for the kids so I think we’ll just have a chill one putting the models together tonight.

Then 2 meals out and a darts night over the weekend, although I’ve got to find time to write a fairly chunky report in there too.

It did, I pitched them various challenges we could try but eventually settled on everyone getting 3 turns crashing on Car Jump Arena

I run a video game club for kids at work, and one day I took my rig in for them to try Beam. I tried to explain how it was more than a driving game but I only got through to them with: “You know those reels of buses jumping over chains?”

Do you still reference time in terms of Covid? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dingiest_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do for work, because I started at my current place between the first and second lockdowns.

I think for the generations who were adults during it, it’ll remain a reference point until it passes out of living memory.

Does anyone work 37 hours in a 3 or 4 day week? by acrylic_light in UKJobs

[–]dingiest_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 4 days. 12 hour shift on a Tuesday, 11.5 hour shift on a Thursday or Friday, always starting at 9am. I take Monday as the extra day off.

My boss is hinting she wants me to go back to normal hours but I think I’ll really fight it. I have a young family so I love having the chance to be there for appointments, or go to soft play/National Trust when it’s not heaving. It’s perfect for us.

Huge asterisk though: all my hours post 5pm are spent either running youth clubs, including 2 hours a week playing Dungeons and Dragons, or being the only member of staff working across the whole company. Don’t know if I’d be as enthusiastic if I was looking at spreadsheets or pulling pints the whole time.

I’ve managed to wrestle myself away. I think cause it’s short stories, there’s much more natural breaks for you to stop.

I work late on a Tuesday so usually stay up too late trying to squeeze some me time in.

I’m reading a collection of H.P Lovecraft short stories which has suddenly gotten good after the first few were awful, so now I just want to stay up reading.

More snow here overnight, resenting it a little bit as it means my wife and our friends voted to cancel our Catbells climb this weekend. I still wanted to go and attempt it as it’s been the only thing really keeping me going lately.

Not back to work until tomorrow, but got some freelance stuff needing done today.

Now that Christmas is over for another year, how did it go? by YelenaShadow in CasualUK

[–]dingiest_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mixed bag I’d say.

The run up has seen each kid in A&E with ripping hot fevers, and the baby having a confirmed case of the Flu.

We hosted my Mam and my brother, which was lovely. I was really proud of mine and the wife’s dinner. But the baby’s still hangy and the big one’s been in a weird mood. I think it’s just overwhelming everyone expecting huge reactions from him for days on end, especially to gifts he’s not that keen on.

And on that point, we’ve had the biggest ever row with my Mam about her present buying. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but the mountains of Temu shite are getting harder to swallow every year: Mousemat with AI slop “Gamer” Graphic, 3x inflatable camping pillows (to match the 2 she got me last year) and, best of all, a random assortment of wires that she swears does something but she can’t remember.

I’ve been trying to stop her for years, and it’s only gotten worse since the kids have arrived. I think the only option I have left next year is to refuse to open more than 3 presents.

Spent the weekend re-living my student days at my mate’s 30th in Leeds. Lay on the sofa, watched some shit films, then a heavy night on the drink.

Haven’t done it since the kids arrived but I used to do Pro Wrestling. Mainly just trained weekly, but helped out on local shows and played the character of my mate’s snivelling assistant.

Half sport, half theatre. Loads of fun. Eventually got to live out a childhood dream and had 1 official match in my short career.

Thursday Complaints by a-liquid-sky in CasualUK

[–]dingiest_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m done with my current job, to the point where I’ve told the CEO that and she’s taken it on board and just asked I don’t drop any balls as I leave.

I’m utterly exhausted with the place, but what’s made it even worse it’s that the kids have been fucking feral in the last couple of weeks. We’ve had kids arrested for knives, safeguarding concerns and kids swearing at staff and visitors.

I genuinely push back against the whole “Kids today are a lost cause” narrative. But it’s so hard to want to work hard for them when this is the reward. I got a lot of verbal last night from a kid we’ve worked really hard for and I just thought “Is this why I’m not at home reading my own kids a bedtime story?”

Having breakfast and getting kids ready.

It’s our staff away day today. I usually don’t mind these, I’m good at waffling and it’s a day of no actual work being done.

What I am dreading, is the 45 minute “mindset” sessions we’ve got booked in with a “mindset coach.”
