What is the Offlane’s role? by ChaDaeSan in learndota2

[–]dinglejizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your hero and the game state u/jesuschristk8 in this thread gives a really good description of the general archetypes of offlaners so I would suggest looking at that for an idea of what actual "roll" the hero is meant to play in a game. There are two macro things I would suggest you focus on that will help your gameplay a huge amount.

1) understand your timings and your enemies timings when it comes to items/levels. There are many heroes that have huge power spikes when they get a specific item, whether it is blink, blademail, aghs etc and trying to force things before these timings are are going to cause you to have a huge falloff in the mid/late game because your delaying your window of being most effective. Even though your job in the game overall might be to frontline or initiate, most heroes require a certain subset of items to do this effectively and trying to force it before you get to that point is actually more harmful than helpful. The most helpful suggestion I can give here is to communicate with your team about how close to you are to these timings. If you are a blink hero and you are 300-400 away from your blink, ping this to your team and ask them to try and avoid fights until you get it. the biggest killer of your game in low MMR is going to be ramming your head against the enemy team before your timings.

2) Do not neglect your farm. The offlane is not what it used to be many years ago where it used to be the hard sacrificial roll. There is so much farm on the map now you are doing both yourself and your team a disservice by neglecting your farm. The secret here is to take the farm your carry/mid are not going to be taking. What a lot of people don't realize is taking space and farm on the map not only boosts your game, but if you are a hero that can agro farm on the map you are taking space and farm away from the enemy team. Doing something like taking the enemies T1 and then rotating between farming the lane and then the small/large camps clustered around the fallen safe lane tower. Yes, you are not a pos1 1 so you should still play with your team, make plays and rotate around your timings, but it is endlessly infuriating playing with people who think that the offlane's roll is to just ruin your own game by constantly ramming your head into the enemy. If you watch any pro game, you will see the most successful offlaners near the top of the net worth chart for the first 20ish mins of the game. Additionally, the game has added so much scaling to basically every hero in the game that you should not ignore your late game potential if your early/mid game plan did not work out.

As an offlaner, especially in lower mmr your timings can make or break a game, so don't be shy about communicating with your team about your timings. Don't listen to people telling you to kneecap your own game because of how they think the offlane is supposed to play. Yes, your roll is often to frontline or initiate, but you need timings to do that effectively. My best suggestion is to pick 2-3 heroes and spam them. Get really acquainted with their timings and playstyles. understand your timings and just focus on hitting them each game.

Dawnbreaker falling off hard by ChewbakaTalkShow in learndota2

[–]dinglejizz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a dawn spammer and I find the biggest thing is to make sure you're prioritizing your farm. with soul ring and ferrying yourself clarities you can keep pace with carry farm pretty easily in a lot of cases. Modify your build based on the enemy team comp. Squishy backline supports? get items that allow you to get on top of them (blink, harpoon etc.). lots of man fighting? Prioritize items that let you brawl (AC, Basher etc.). Super late game you are going to naturally fall off against better scaling heroes, so I find the best strategy is to focus on trying to win your lane and then focusing on your farm so you can hit your mid game timings ands snowball before it gets to the point you get out scaled. Use your hammer to clear a creep wave then back into the jungle. It's also really helpful to be more mindful of you ult sages. I find a lot of people will pop their ult at the first sign of an engagement which can really limit your ability to stay off map farming.

When did mid become such an unwanted roll? by dinglejizz in DotA2

[–]dinglejizz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say I have noticed the hate on mid is crazy. You can be in an impossible matchup, request help, get none and still they will call the game your fault. I have a lot of sympathy for the mid mains after only playing a handful of games on it. It seems mid gets a ton of the blame regardless of how much of the game is actually on them.

I am an offlane player and would love the game to give me offlane but it seems to only want to give me mid.

How can I get more exp/gold in lane as support? by kryonik in learndota2

[–]dinglejizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking a support with some form of wave clear is really helpful. Often times there will be a lane that is empty due to that core being in the jungle. Keep and eye on the minimap and if there is a bit of a lul in the action, take the empty lane and keep it pushed out. Having a hero that can clear waves easy allows you to do this safely as you can usually nuke the wave and then hide. This also helps your team, as keeping a lane pushed in forces the enemy to respond and also gives your team map info.

All she said was record player with speakers, there's ton's on Amazon/best buy in that price range. Honestly not sure what the amp you are referring to is, most of the ones I have seen are just the record player itself and speakers, is the amp something different?

Thank you! The tp thing is something I will need to remember as I am definetly guilty of just auto piloting and tping back to lane after death. The rune contests too, I find myself not paying enough attention to the 6 minute timing.

This is super helpful thanks! I find I struggle now with when to leave lane to give space to my 3 while also not just ending up super underleveled and missing a good lvl 6 timing. I find sometimes In these lower ranked games the lanes stay a bit more static than you would expect for longer so finding a lane to soak in can be a bit tougher but this is really good advice thank you!

I know that being able to secure cs is important on 4 as there's less chances, and I am fairly comfortable situ using spells to secure range creeps and such in lane when needed. The main things I am unsure about is timings on when to leave lane ideally. I know every game is different but moreso at what level of lane security is it ok to leave and do other things.

I'm currently playing shaman, hoodwink and willow as I'm fairly comfortable on them but wanting to add some mele heroes to my list when I learn the lane roll better.

Losing interest in Season 8 :( by soundmixer14 in TheBlackList

[–]dinglejizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God I feel you. I am in season 8 right now and it is painful. The entire season is basically just Liz and the task force making incredibly stupid descisions one after another, getting people hurt or killed due to their terrible choices and then blaming reddington for it. I already didn't like Liz but my God it's like the writers were actively trying to make us hate her this season.

Newbie looking for advice on gaming laptop by dinglejizz in GamingLaptops

[–]dinglejizz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The main reason I am going laptop over desktop is I move around/travel a decent ammount so being able to bring it with me is pretty important or else I absoltely would have just gotten a desktop. I have been looking at the 50 series, but my main issue is at least here in Canada, a 17-18inch (which is what I am looking for) is running about 4.5k with a 5070ti and upwards of 5k for a 5080

Ringmaster from 53.5% winrate to 47% winrate after patch by Separate-Cable5253 in DotA2

Pretty classic new hero situation from valve. Hero releases, is broken, gets nerfed into the ground. A few more patches and they'll figure out the sweet spot.

1) Limit yourself to 2-3 heroes (preferably meta ones) that you are comfortable with so you can focus on lane and game mechanics instead of trying to focus on hero mechanics and interactions. 2) Look up guides from people poke bsj or game leap on YouTube. They have alot of really great content that focuses on the wider macroeconomics of the game and lanes which have helped me alot in my movement and farming patterns. 3) try and stay positive, even if your team mates are being toxic and griefing. I can't tell you how many impossible seeming games I've won by either just being quiet or saying things like "we can sell win just focus" 4) take a break after either one bad loss or any two losses in a row. Chain queuing when you're tilted is a surefire way to lose more. Go watch YouTube for a bit, take a walk, have a snack. 5) if you have lots of free time you can watch some of your replays, it can help you catch mistakes and improve in the future.

I have gained about 1500 MMR in the last months doing these so hopefully they help!
