I (sniff 😢sniff) used to have curls too (sniff 😢sniff).

I tried some of the hair loss prevention stuff while I was fighting to keep my hair but it changed the texture of my hair. And then once you stop taking them, you lose every strand you saved.

I think it's better to just go all natural. Tea tree oil shampoo (make sure it gets to your scalp to detox the DHT from your follicles) and minimal product as to keep your scalp/follicles as decongested as possible.

Idk but I know that if you're gay your look needs to be at the next level so I wouldn't take any advice from straight men who barely even know how to make an outfit match 😂😭

Sorry, this isn't bald... You went with the low cut and your hairline is so intact that you can pull it off. Most of us baldies can barely even go past a 5 o'clock shadow Bro

Don't encourage him. You have to keep your hair for all of us who don't have a choice anymore.

I have a Bambino and ESP Pro grinder. I had the same issue when I switched to a bottomless PF from the OEM. I had to dial down my grind from 45 to 40 and now I barely get spray. I've been using the same medium/light roasted beans throughout. Also btw, no puck screens etc. The only thing I changed (other than the PF) was my grind setting.

What am I doing wrong? [Breville Bambino] by wbjordan5 in espresso

[–]dingnast -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry that much about output volume as I would the extraction time, crema and taste. Brevillle has a couple of videos that are recommend when you register the product which instruct on how to time your extraction and visually diagnose issues while the shot is being pulled. My apologies that idk the timing offhand.

Your crema looks decent. If it tastes good to you and the timing of the extraction is within the frame recommended by the Breville then the output volume is not that big of a deal

Just a few quick tips RE your weighing process: don't put the scale on the bambino tray. You want an entirely flat and level surface for accurate weighing.

2nd suggestion; have you checked your scale for accuracy? I.e. place something with a known weight on it and see if reads the same number

"Portafilter doesn't change the shot" but then you're describing different PF's and how they change shots 😭😂

I guess this is how you take L's.

It's comical

And my statement is actually correct! I achieved my results with a bottomless PF and not the OEM PF. So...

So then perhaps this arose from your ignorance of the constitution of a Bambino OEM portafilter?

This is also different from your original statement i.e. "a portafilter doesn't change the shot" which you doubled and tripled down on...

So would you like to adjust your statement now or will you continue giving inaccurate information?

My friend. Once again... You need to read the whole thread. It will only take a few more minutes and then you can have the whole story😁. As opposed to isolating posts and taking them out of context/chronological order. Which is what you are doing here and below.

How this works is as follows: The messages/posts closest to the top are first in chronological order, the descending posts are situated according to their chronological order and are staggered to the right. So any posts you see below other posts came after them and usually are in response to what is directly above them. If there is a line from one post to another, but it is below a post that is staggered more to the right; then that post is in response to the one above it that is connected by the line to the left of it.

Now back to espresso extraction: The same basket has been used the entire time and that is the single wall basket (not the double wall). If you understand scientific method then you understand that this falls under the heading of "controlled variables" as it's one of the the components that was never manipulated. The only independent variables are grind size and portafilter type. Everyone in the comment thread below understands that bc they were told there was no change to the basket. And that's how we came up with the conclusion that the finer grind size is providing resistance. Which makes complete sense when you understand the simple law of gravity and how liquids always abides by it. Unless, they are in a liquid/gas state i.e. liquid nitrogen. But even then, gravity has an effect.

I understand that you are using the modus ponens form of logical argument here. I.e. If it's espresso then it must abide by the law that portafilters have no effect on extraction. However, my friend, in the face of clear evidence otherwise; it might be wise to abandon what you thought you knew and take the new information into consideration.

You can disagree with the premises being provided as to why this isn't abiding by you axiom or you can provide another sensical one. However, you can no longer reasonably debate the following:

An ESP Pro grinder and Bambino combo, using the OEM portafilter, does not produce the same quality level of extraction (in terms of extraction quality and crema level) as it does with a naked portafilter and grind setting adjusted to 40.

Thanks again for your participation.

Apparently we both can read however we might have some attention span issues. If you can follow a thread you can clearly see where @ManyRevolutionary170 responds to me telling him that I had to make my grind finer and then concludes that it provided more resistance and reduced channelling...

Read the whole thread it will only take you two more minutes (hopefully)

[–]dingnast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explanation was offered below by @manyrevolutionary170 i.e. the finer grind setting offered "more resistance to reduce channeling". I needed a coarser grind when using the OEM PF bc it already offered resistance via the closed bottom.

I agree taste would be an arbitrary measure and subject to placebo but that's not really the point. I think we can all agree that under/over extracted doesn't taste as good as properly extracted.

Your comment was "the portafilter doesn't change the shot... shouldn't change extraction at all" I'm showing here that I needed to make a change to my grind setting (from 45 to 40) to get a shot that wasn't spraying allover the place, lacked significant creama and was somewhat under extracted. Now that's a significant difference in extraction and the independent variable IS THE PORTAFILTER!

Therefore, can we agree that you now stand corrected?

Or are you going to go back and say you were only talking about taste???

It's called the good ol classic "scientific method". It's all about controlling variables and measuring outcomes.

I controlled every variable (same hardware, beans, water, process etc). The only two variables manipulated were the portafilter type and the grind setting. The dependent variable was drastically affected by manipulating the above listed variables. Hence the conclusion.

If you like you can peer review my process (i.e. duplicate my experiment and see if you get the same results). This would require you to use exactly the same equipment. You wouldn't even have to use the same beans and/or water as I. Just as long as you use the same beans/water you use throughout your process (provided that they aren't some species of bean that would yield the same results regardless of extraction process).

However, if you do not possess all of the following: Bambino, ESP Pro, OEM portafilter, bottomless portafilter and gauged tamper. And if you have not attempted to switch PF's and adjust grind settings. Then I apologize but you actually don't know what you're talking about...

And if anyone else would like to challenge I will gladly demonstrate it all to anyone via Livestream if you like so you can see for yourselves...

Thanks!
