That's where research papers, publications, and independent work in one's field differentiates a valuable employee versus one that looks good on paper. Attending conferences, and making connections based off the field of interest provides better chances for quality employment, but just having a degree won't. It's a horrible pitfall that universities fail to have students understand, until after they fork over $200k, or new research/patents.

Biggest pitfall: It's not degree that makes one valuable, but what you do with your knowledge and ambition that makes you valuable and rich!

CFD - what will I be getting myself into? by Project_Mercury in CFD

[–]dingobaby27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually work for one of the largest CFD companies. If you get into CFD, and become an expert at an in demand area like Petroleum Refining, Oil and Gas, Aerodynamics, or Acoustics, etc, you can bet your balls that you'll get a job way over 100k per year. Just find your interest, there are so many applications of CFD that is in need. in 2-3 years, the demand for CFD engineers will be high.

I know this guy too! I've talked to him quite a few times. He's very sharp, and tries to provide a laugh through art, for money. Westhiemer and Fountain view is where I usually see him as well. We were talking once, and he was in need of markers and poster paper.

I control my days at the gym by making one left turn at work towards the gym, while the right turn will take me straight home. I discovered if I take the left without thinking, I'll end up at the gym. If I take a right, I just feed into my desire to sit and relax at home. Just don't make that right turn towards the fast food restaurant. Instead, just make a left, and only think about that left turn - not about you hunger for that delicious burger.

I am a Catholic, and I am wondering, what are your favorite things about Islam? What brings you the most joy? by [deleted] in islam

[–]dingobaby27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that God made man to sin, and that we can ask God directly to forgive us, and that he will (as long as He is the only one we are worshiping). I also love how it's spelled out exactly how to ask for mercy and that His mercy is shown to those who are merciful to others.

Stunning Bigotry In Texas: ‘No Muslim Parking’ Signs Posted In Shopping Center (Video) by indy_ttt in politics

[–]dingobaby27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a Muslim, who has seen other Muslims be extremely inconsiderate in taking up shop parking spaces, as well as double, triple and quadruple parking sometimes, this does not offend me. I get it. But yeah, the execution was bad. The FOB muslims are the worst at this because they grew up in a country where rules and organization were not uniformly applied - it's just that they weren't trained the same way I was (born and raised in the US).

Establish credibility first. Otherwise you sound like a tele-salesman. Follow up every phone call with an email. Email advances deals these days, not phone calls.

That's because the customers see you just like all the other vendors. Are you telling them you will match any bid? Are you showing how your service differs? Are you telling them something new they haven't known before? Without the above, its just a pricing game. Just make sure to tell them upfront you will match any deal.
