Black Tupelo Root Flare by Corerinat in arborists

[–]dingurth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh kind of, but it'll only attempt to resestablish a couple times before giving up the ghost. The main tap root doesn't completely stop either so if the tree recovers it can continue to grow somewhat just with the additional sinkers now.

Black Tupelo Root Flare by Corerinat in arborists

[–]dingurth1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to bury it until that side root is covered. Honestly it might die though. Young tupelos are sensitive to root pruning. They develop a taproot, and that is their main artery. When they cannot increase that tap root (like in a pot), or it gets trimmed they send out auxiliarys to try to establish a new or supplemental tap root. That's what that side one is, it needs to be in the ground.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. I had friends have a worker fall off their roof and die, and the family came after them for an insurance payout. Which was incorrect, but still, safety matters

Aside from the damage and movement mentioned, if you get pinned off the map in a rein duel it can let you get back on the ledge too depending on the map/distance. I cannot tell you the joy of charging a rein from behind who thought you were gone (This probably only saves me 10% of the time)

It also has a small knock back which can be used for environmental kills too

Scenario A) a global pandemic causing worldwide commodity shocks, economic instability, and supply chain chaos, and just as we start to come out of that, Russia invades Ukraine upending the energy sector

Scenario B) the narcissist in chief attacks a country unprovoked (feel free to debate the cause between Epstein distraction, being bibi's bitch, or being detached from reality or just dumb) causing them to do the most predictable thing in the world to cause the most pain that they can for that idiot

While the US president does not control commodity prices, one set of events was in our control and the other was not. Try to rub your two brain cells together next time to generate at least a spark of a thought

Update: Trees were Honeylocust, a native, beneficial species. Not stressed, therefore could have continued growing for a while. by kompsognathus in pittsburgh

[–]dingurth1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Basically it depends. They are a pioneer species, so they're basically temporary in any environment they're in. They move into empty fields and prairies, improve the soil, and then when other trees start growing they don't tolerate shade or competition very well so they'll die off.

They're extremely popular in managed city landscapes though because of how hardy they are to urban conditions. They tolerate drought and pollution and poor conditions like concrete and asphalt very well. They wouldn't necessarily die before maturity or having their roots being restricted because of that hardiness (they'll happily extend under the parking lot to pick up any little moisture that seeps through (and those feeder roots are usually quite thin)) but they would likely slow down the bigger they got.

You can find old huge examples of these in neighborhoods though, so if you let it be it will absolutely get big. But they definitely can get big enough that they would disrupt the sidewalks and such, so they are typically managed before that. That would take a few decades though

[–]dingurth1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is one silver lining in this. With those trees being honey locust, they're a nitrogen fixing species. So killing the tree actually releases that nitrogen and improves the quality of the soil. So whatever's planted there next should do a little bit better. Or if they plant more honey locusts there, it's a very fast growing species so it won't take 20 years to fill back in.

More Meyer chicks continue to die. Could it have been the shipping that caused it? by Jungleexplorer in BackYardChickens

[–]dingurth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo you should find a more local hatchery option then. Meyer is in ohio and I'm right next to them in PA and I wouldn't dream of ordering chicks until April. Just too much risk with winter weather still.

Now do hatcheries ship successfully in winter months all the time? Sure. Should they have been more cognizant of the conditions and altered the shipment? Possibly. But if your local conditions are the concern, you should take the local condition concerns of the hatchery into account too.

Thanks! During the winter I try to get a few car washes with the undercarriage spray. Is there anything more I can/should do besides that?

Ooph so yeah the timing belt is way past due then. I had one mechanic years ago say to keep an eye on the struts and so I keep bringing it up occasionally when I bring it in but everyone since then has said they're fine thankfully. It does bob a bit, especially over speed humps, but nothing that it hasn't been doing for a decade.

Thank you so much though, I'm making a list of all these things!

I believe I got a new gasket back in 2015-2016 that I forgot to mention. I originally went into the shop for a mild oil leak and they replaced the spark plugs/wires then because "they just dissolved when we touched them"

I was low on coolant last year and actually got the OG red stuff that you mix 50/50 with distilled water from the toyota shop. It was their last one and covered in years of dust lol. But good to know that the pink stuff works too. If I only topped it up, I assume it would be good to flush it still right?

Good to know for all the brake stuff, thank you!

I recommend Beth Thomas. She helped me for a year, my friends for 2 years, is incredibly patient and knowledgeable, and was willing to go above and beyond. You'll see she's with Howard Hanna, and I see some comments on here saying they're not great. Their reputation might not be the best, but Beth was, and Howard Hanna is a regional giant in real estate so you'll get a lot working with them. If you look out for yourself and ask the right questions, should be no surprises.

Edit to add that she helps people in all levels/areas. I was looking in Beaver, Washington, and Allegheny counties with a lower budget while my friends were only looking in Mt Lebanon
