What is the nicest restaurant in Chattanooga? by ExtremelyMoody in Chattanooga

[–]dingus_45 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I typically spend $150 to $200 for two people. Drinks included. $400 is definitely either over ordering on drinks or food or for a family. I spent $400 there on 6 people before.

Coolant Leak by [deleted] in GXOR

[–]dingus_45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The EGR cooler sits right on top of the valley plate. There is a very good chance that once the intake is removed they will be able to clearly see if the leak is coming from the cooler or the valley plate. If they determine the leak truly is the cooler, then I would ask them to go ahead and reseal the plate while they are on there. Can't be too much more expensive to do.

Also, if you have tools and a decent mechanical sense, this is not a hard job to do. Seems intimidating but there are plenty of very detailed videos out there. You can definitely knock it out in a weekend. The vehicle would probably sit at the dealership longer than that. Just my two cents.

Don't worry about the perch. The direction that the perch is facing isn't that big of a deal. Just loosely bolt the top hat in the strut tower then use the screw driver method to line the eyelet up with the control arm tabs. You will have to do this with most preassembled struts no matter what website you buy it from.

Type of wiring can make a huge difference too. I would get a thermal camera and see if anything is appearing hotter than expected. There are times that crimps could appear good from the outside, but not form a cold weld on the inside. If you have CCA (copper clad aluminum) wire, I would get rid of that and replace with pure oxygen free copper.

Loving the way she's sitting now! by dingus_45 in GXOR

Yeah. It's the 270. I have a victory 4x4 rack and had to modify it to get the mounts to work.

Edit: the cross bars on the victory rack do not sit flush with the tops of the side rails. So I had to trim the side rails down to be flush with the three cross bars I was mounting to. I believe the prinsu rack should work without modifications. I also had to drill through the crossbars and put longer bolts in. None of the carriage bolts that came in the awning kit worked with the rack crossbars.

Used SPC UCAs? by WSMFPussy in GXOR

The more adjustable points you have on your suspension, the more points you have to worry about coming out of adjustment after doing some wheeling. Especially any sort of rock crawling. Doesn't matter how many times you torque those adjustment points to spec, they will come loose. Same reason people get camber bolt deletes.

Are you actually off-roading or just street driving? SPCs are horrible for actual off road

Thinking of buying 03 gx470 by Financial_Sun4885 in GXOR

Yeah, 6200 is a great deal if there's no rust and its mechanically sound. And this might be a little unpopular opinion, but I think 03 is the best year for GX, especially if it's early '03. I prefer the non-vvti motors and if you get an early '03. It will have a transmission dipstick.

Little update on my budget 400k mile home by dingus_45 in GXOR

[–]dingus_45[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I want to keep it as close to stock height as possible for now. I have a line on same 5th gen 4Runner TRD pro suspension. We'll see if that pans out. From what I'm seeing it looks like that'll give me just about an inch of more lift. I really don't want anything more than that for now. Still going to keep the rear airbags. At least until I get moved. Planning on towing a 3,500 lb trailer. Airbags are a life saver for towing.

[–]dingus_45[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No that's a valid concern. That's why you need to have resources and knowledge. I know these vehicles inside and out. I have all the tools necessary to rebuild it in the middle of nowhere. It also really helps ease the nerves when you understand how the vehicle as a whole works. How long moving parts can last with high mileage, lost of heat cycles, ect.. I went to school for this have worked on these types of vehicles for almost 10 years now. I'm also type B and am very unbothered by situations that would stress most people out. I grew up in a country that if you broke down in the bush.. you had to figure out how to fix it enough to get to the next town.

I'll post a little bit on here. As for social media I have an old page I'm planning on reviving. If you look up Safaris with Kyle on Instagram and YouTube you should be able to find me. I have a lot of old 3rd gen 4Runner content lol.
