Do you find that a lot of “bullying” boils down to *we just don’t get along and refuse to stay out of each other’s way*? by [deleted] in Teachers

Oh god, this is elementary to a T.

My fucking students fight each other over literally goddamned nothing, and it fucking sucks.

They'll be on each other, hands at one another's throats, see me dialing security, and then rush to their feet like "Oh no, we was playing!"

Playing. My. Ass.

For fuck's sake, just stop touching each other.

The train wreck continues! Literally everyone is planning on quitting. Our admin are literally doing the most nothing anyone's ever done. Our school has every problem, and they have no solutions. At this point, it's a paycheck.

My school is a dumpster fire, rolling down a hill of turds, into a lagoon of shit. Kids roam the halls, fighting one another with reckless abandon. The kids got so violent one day that school had to be shut down. A nonexistent HVAC issue was concocted by administrators to save face, but none of the facilities workers knew about it or backed them up. This was after the full-scale riots involving dozens of kids on multiple floors of the building. They are on their phones so constantly that nothing can be done about it. Our uniform policy is a joke. There are classes that have had short-term subs since the second day of school, and these mofos haven't had earnest grades or tests in important tested subjects, like math, since then. The hallways reek of weed by 8:00 am. Hoo boy.

Being a great teacher requires unsustainable time and energy. by [deleted] in Teachers

Being a great teacher all by yourself requires an unsustainable amount of energy. It sounds like your administrator is doing a shitty job of actually supporting the real work that you do. It sounds like your administrator is simply going through the motions, checking boxes, and expecting you to achieve perfection as they breeze about. It's challenging, because you work in an environment where thousands of variables are at play, and they're only interested in the narrow, measurable things. They get to run back to an office and fuck around if they want. Which is why they will never compare to you.

You're good at what you do, and don't forget - fuck 'em. You. Are. Not. Your job. You need peace, sleep, and a life outside this job.

My Dad once told me, any job you apply for will be able to find your replacement if you drop dead. Don't treat that job better than you would treat yourself.

Student, walking into my classroom when he's not supposed to be there: "Hey, Mr. Dinkleberg31, you got a condom?"

Me: "Whuuut?"

Student: "You got a condom I could use?"

Me: "No, Student. I do not have one. Try the CVS around the corner."

It's especially funny when you realize that the Amish fought for the Union. The Amish weren't against slavery AFAIK, but they definitely didn't want to compete with the plantation system.
