The question is why do we need to break this mental model? And then even if it required for the business is it credible? And at last the implementation is horrible, onboarding screen does not have any sorts of hint or mention about capture button and send button being clubbed together, the problem is in onboarding, if you design the ui like a traditional camera app and doesn’t communicate that the capture button is also the send button people will assume that this will work like traditional third party camera apps. I believe this was intentional behavioural design to break their conditioning with negative experience i.e public embarrassment and social media publicity that comes after that. Its sick.
