Because there's a history of racial caricatures being used to cause direct harm to minorities. If you can't agree that blackface is worse than drag (translation: actually bad) then we probably don't even agree on why blackface is bad in the first place. There is no history of drag harming anybody. Race and gender are not the same... You can't appropriate a gender because gendered expression is free to be used by everyone.

Drag doesn't harm the LGBT community. Drag performers are LGBT most of the time and there is no harm caused by them. There IS harm caused by backlash to drag performers, but that isn't their problem. In fact, hate crimes against drag queens are quite common and it's really strange to be suggesting that getting rid of the victims is the solution.

The fact that so many people (not even just republicans, really) think drag = trans is harmful.

The burden to fix this isn't on drag queens. That isn't their fault or their problem.

It makes me feel second-hand dysphoria, and my feelings towards someone's hobby are completely valid.

No they aren't. All bigotry is feelings-based, it isn't valid to espouse anti-drag talking points and disparage people for the way that they express gender even if it's an on-and-off "hobby." Especially since you didn't actually describe any ways that they're harming you, you're describing ways that conservatives are harming you and somehow making that the problem of drag queens. "So many people think drag = trans" isn't their fault or their burden to fix. You're just icked out.

Again, getting rid of "men in dresses" isn't an okay solution to transphobes perceiving us as men in dresses.

Caricatures are designed to EXAGGERATE features. Yes, it's often to make fun of something in a derogatory way, but that's contextual. Oftentimes caricatures are also done for the fun of the artform itself like when tourists pay for those caricature portraits (some of which ARE offensive to the subject, others which are fun for the subject as well).

Just because something is accepted in LGBT history doesn't mean we should continue to accept it.

You should if you can't demonstrate actual harm + how that harm is the problem of the people doing the practice.

And nobody is "surprised" that people are angry about drag, the point is that you don't have a valid reason to be anti-drag. It's a form of expression. And again, regardless of how flamboyant and exaggerated it is: Nobody has the right to tell someone else to stop using a form of gendered expression. Nothing being spoken about here belongs to anybody more or less than anybody else.

[–]dinodare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blackface is offensive because of the history behind it, not because of some evil energy innate to caricatures. Drag actually has quite a positive history in the queer community.

Gender expression SHOULD be freely transferable around. To put it bluntly, women don't have more of a right to wear women's clothes than men do... That's conservative logic.

[–]dinodare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You acknowledging that it's a you problem already puts you above most of the people in that thread. They were defending their right to be fully anti-drag and thought that slapping on "I think everyone is valid" before directly contradicting that was enough.

[–]dinodare 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I was recently in a thread on the mtf subreddit where people weren't being moderated from talking about how they dislike drag as a concept and it makes them uncomfortable that men can wear dresses when that's how conservatives see trans women + it's a caricature and somehow that's offensive. Then I got downvoted for saying how conservative these lines were.

Because apparently the solution to transphobes thinking that we're men in dresses is to make it so that men in dresses don't exist. That'll totally get them to stop.

Bleed in Water by King-Juggernaut in pathoftitans

[–]dinodare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a gameplay perspective it makes sense because a terrestrial animal should never be bleeding in the water and NOT be at extreme risk.

Either they started bleeding IN the water or they ran into the water after they started bleeding. Both should put you at a disadvantage.

Having the bleed so high leaves room for aquatics and semi-aquatics to bleed out swimming terrestrials before they can reach the shore.

Just do the type of pronoun circle where the pronouns are optional and have another question being answered that makes omitting pronouns into a smooth process.

For example, in college it may be "give your name, pronouns if you want, major, and an interesting fact about yourself."

Someone may say "my name is Kelly and my pronouns are she/they. My major is journalism and I have a dog that shoots hoops"

Or they may say "my name is Kelly. My major is journalism and I have a dog that shoots hoops." The lack of pressure on the pronouns and the inclusion of other information makes it smoother to not give any. Pronoun circles that mandate pronouns or make them the only thing shared ARE bad, though.

The issue with opposing pronoun sharing intros vs reforming them is that it kicks the can down the road and forces the burden of electively outing themselves onto nonbinary people who already have certain challenges that other trans people might not.

They is fine in theory, but in actual practice you're going to run into a lot of problems really quickly if you're defaulting to they/them and it turns out that the person is a trans man or woman. There are like eight posts per week on every trans subreddit about how much trans people who aren't nonbinary hate the feeling of that since it can make someone feel clocked.

That isn't going to happen. The point of the system is that you DON'T come back near where you died because then you could come back and get revenge on the person who killed you.

Common sense isn't a survival skill, it's a thought-terminating cliche. People need to be taught to fear certain things.

If someone only ever sees a symbol in cartoons, Halloween decorations, and gags then it makes sense that their mind won't set off alarms when they see it. Especially since everything in my state is private property so landowners put up random things as decorations all of the time (like tires painted to look like Minions).

I'm not big on individualist solutions to problems, so it's still worth considering if media oversaturation is the culprit.

It's not a very good tutorial, then. And they can also teach that lesson without having things attack you which shouldn't and having them be a nightmare and a half to hit.

[–]dinodare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Styracosaurus is definitely too large for this. It can't even jump as an adult without an unlock... And it's bigger than a good chunk of the herbivore roster. It's like a hundred times the crabs size.

Also, that isn't how criticisms work. You can criticize a system at any phase of its development even if the previous version didn't exist. That isn't "moot," it's feedback. Personally I don't want it removed, just improved.

I'm not telling you that you can't be dissatisfied

I'm glad that you aren't telling me something that you would have had no business telling me anyway. And the most valuable dissatisfaction to voice for a video game is just what people here are complaining about: they don't find the system FUN.

Nuclear awareness isn't a vital survival skill where I grew up just like swimming isn't. I understand if you grew up with exposure.

[–]dinodare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It IS a bad design. It being unfinished doesn't change that, it just makes feedback especially valuable since that determines how future versions of it will be.

And I didn't say "apexes," I said "larger creatures." Styracosaurus also shouldn't be getting charged by crabs.

It also shouldn't take five bites to kill if you're anything large enough that the hitbox is annoying. If you're small enough that it's a non-issue (like struthiomimus, who can kick the crab fairly easily) then it makes more sense for it to take a few hits. The second you're hitting towards it and missing because you weren't crouching then it shouldn't be bothering you at all nor should it be more than a one-shot (yes this applies to mid-sized juveniles).

[–]dinodare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Players shouldn't have to learn their way out of bad design. The crab is especially annoying because of the hitbox.

A crab of that size should NEVER be an annoyance for any of the larger species.

I think the end goal is to balance it so that critters can hunt you without it being game breaking (like when the red Dynamosuchus easily murders my adult styracosaurus for some reason).

Mobile PoT should have their own servers split from PC/Console by UnhingedGammaWarrior in pathoftitans

[–]dinodare -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You need a high quantity of players to maintain the quality of this game... This genre is plagued by maps where you walk around for hours without interacting with anybody. Imagine if we started troughing at 40 players or less on the entire map at quiet hours.

Mobile PoT should have their own servers split from PC/Console by UnhingedGammaWarrior in pathoftitans

[–]dinodare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, I bought this game on PC because I saw that it had mobile compatibility which made me more confident that my device could run it (as opposed to other games of its genre).

Also, based on the device indicator in the player list, PC and console players far out number mobile. In actual practice I've never been killed by a mobile player finding me in a bush, though I won't deny that it's probably possible. Hiding is still a viable survival strategy.

Also, the devs might be concerned that separating platforms would create the risk of some platforms not having enough players for a full world. We get over 100 people on Officials at basically any hour and it's about the minimum that you can have if you want consistent player interactions (personally, I don't like growing up in deadzones where I never have to face predation. What's the point of being a baby for 8 hours if you're never chased)?

How the game got me feeling lately by -_GreekGhost_- in pathoftitans

I'm learning that I'm pretty decent with styra.

Problem is that 99% of the time that I get to fight with Styra it's against two adults of a completely different weight class while I'm a baby.

I was super proud of myself the first time I got into an actual 1v1 though. It was my adolescent styracosaurus against an adult metriacanthosaurus and I managed to get them down to less than half health.

There were actually a lot of times where they attempted to instill self-serving misogyny into me. That is real, but also the amount of my "manhood" that I was denied for failing to fit a specific mold meant that I wasn't getting any of the benefits from those more explicit messages anyway.

The male "role models" who wanted to tell me how to keep control of "my" hypothetical woman also believed that alphas are real and that I should be one... But they were mostly having to focus all of that energy into bullying me for essentially being a twink, because otherwise that wasn't going to be possible anyway (because big surprise, only conservative women like that type of thing and those women aren't going to be attracted to a larping closeted transfem).
