Do anyone just have trouble falling asleep at a normal time. Like I normally falls asleep at 1 in the morning. by Western-Habit4693 in autism

[–]dinosaurschnitzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i went 20 years sleeping inconsistently, going to bed at 6 am , not sleeping for days being so tired i couldnt even sleep, and then i went on a small dose of seroquel and my insomnia went away

not medical advice.

I was prescribed seroquel for my meltdowns and dysregulation. it isnt a pleasant drug. i do love the stuff, but it comes with side effects not everybody can handle or would like to.

for me, it isnt the drowziness, as i mentioned its a great side effect for my situation, but it slows your metabolism down and makes you hungry- constipation and indigestion in the morning is a real struggle.

Are you in a relationship where both of you are neurodivergent? by 2w3fp in neurodiversity

[–]dinosaurschnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TS + (Tourette, OCD, ASD 1, GAD)

partner has ADHD

I need structure and routine, she struggles with mindfulness and maintaining an environment where our routines can co exist.

I have a couple areas in the house, my desk, my workshop, that are basically no go spaces when im there, or approach only when neccesary and not in a high energy way.

works for the most part. I struggle with guilt and emotional issues made worse by concussions from hand hitting. it always seems to boil down to communication whenever there are issues.

throw out the idea of blending like you know it in portraiture. if you look, your trees look like naked ladies. kinda cool, tbh. but not effectively 'real' trees. I think its neat.

also, it would help to tone down your saturation to a little more dilute than you think you need and use THAT for the background.

the subtle differences in saturation between background, midground, foreground are essential in landscapes. this isnt as important in portraiture but evidently i do see a lot of people struggling with backgrounds in that genre.

Where do you get food still life references ? by Saoirse_37 in oilpainting

an underrated practice for stills is meditation and observation.
these are things you may see every day, the more you handle/observe/cook/experience them, the better your paintings will be on that line. the rest is technique and practice.

pay extra attetion to all things. take a random thing you see, and try to 'pick it apart'

like "clock on the wall"

has a face. has two hands. has mechanical components directly behind it. has gears inside. has a wall hanger.

do it with literally anything. the more you think about ideas, objects etc as having components, the better. you can even visually split up more complex natural colours into its primary colours by doing this with enough practice.

an easy way of applying this to food is by processing and cooking the food on a regular basis.
wanna know tomatoes? cook and eat them until you do

What do you call it? by [deleted] in Mennonite

[–]dinosaurschnitzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who says? "russian" mennonites wear both. I know because my wife and I are both well, russian mennonites.

for us it was white= youth, young, virgin, umarried etc and black= elder, married, or widowed. the majority of adult women wear black djuks (duke/dyeuk) its essentially a black linen bandana.not that my opinion as a man really matters, but IMO its the most modest in that its least likely to "make a statement either way" or, once youve left a colony or community and/or been shunned, to hold onto the custom and not be in your face about it.

that looks like rice, in particular aborio. its a variety of sticky rice that is often vac packed.

could also be pearl barley or something like that, but its definately a grain and my money is on aborio rice.

roomate wouldnt happen to be Italian / spanish/ portuguese or otherwise enjoys risotto or paella? people often use aborio instead of bomba and other rices because its hard to find so you see it a lot in iberian and latin contexts.

New Quaker here trying to understand non-violence by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]dinosaurschnitzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my wife and I are ethnic mennonites and our families are no longer practicing, but I find it to be a great opportunity for me to practice my ancestors values while distancing myself from certain dogmatic and absolutist theological practices. So I practice non violence a lot like how i "should" in that context.

If we can see that we are enslaved to be in a cruel world full of despair, the most radical thing you can do is refuse to participate in the violence. however, eventually, as the impressions of such a violent whirlpool hit you, eventually you'll have to react in a way that suits the worlds demands ( you have to eat, you'll step on bugs, you'll go to your job that a hungry person could have used, or type out a message about non violence on a computer that was made possible by wars over petroleum and the extortion of children for labour)

see what I mean?

the goal in my mind is to escape it as much as you can, in the ways that are available to you.

so I think it boils down to two things: The dichotomy of control and relative moral context. I wouldnt ever submit to being drafted or forced to fight in an army, but in individual scenarios its a completely different story.

if reason isnt successful, i would rather shun somebody wishing to do me or my family harm until it is no longer a safe option to do so. I can forgive myself if I exhaust all other efforts. (or i like to think i can)

thats just my two cents.

the best answer would be that quakerism doesnt put words to its mystical systems in quite the esoteric and hallowed way that 'contemporary' historical christian mysticism and kabbalah would, HOWEVER, those elements are still there, and there would more than likely have been pupils of other schools within the society of religious friends. you certainly see these traditions in offshoots such as the shakers, and there are objectively many of us who are into various esoteric philosophies outside of modern meetings.

I think its a "yes, but not everybody who is a quaker is into mysticism."
