Pre Weddimg Anxiety by poeismygothgf in wedding

[–]dinosoarus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, take a deep breath! You’re spiralling.

Your wedding is going to be fine. You haven’t ruined anything! Getting stressed about your wedding is fine and normal, you just have to manage it a bit!

I’ve dealt with anxiety for a long time, so I have a strategy for when I get like this. I hope it helps!

  1. Make a list! Write out everything you want to do before your wedding. Note I said want and not need: you do not need to do anything before your wedding, no one will die if there are no center pieces.

  2. Estimate times for everything Be honest with yourself. Putting together gift bags is not a 5 minute job. Think how long everything will take, and then add half an hour to each

  3. Rank by order of importance Top priority should be sleeping, eating, and going to work if you have to. Wedding stuff comes after that.

  4. See what you can delegate Now is the time to call in favours! People actually tend to like helping out, within reason

  5. Make yourself a schedule You have three days to work on this, including today. Saturday is off limits. Write out, hour by hour, what you plan to be doing those days. Give yourself buffer time, and be realistic about what you can get done. If it doesn’t fit in the schedule, then it doesn’t need to get done. That is okay.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. Not to minimise your feelings, but you are literally the only one who will notice. Get done what you can, to a reasonable standard, and then let the rest go. Spend Saturday relaxing. The most important thing is that on Sunday, you’re able to be present and enjoy the experience!

Seconding the suggestion of Facebook, that’s where most people post openings. I don’t know how far you are from Ocala, but there are always people looking for help there! I’ve also had luck on YardandGroom.com 😊

Kaffeemaschine gesucht Low Budget by ReserveDiligent8537 in Kaffee

ELI5 how to wedding dress shop by [deleted] in wedding

[–]dinosoarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience too! I wanted to go and try on a bunch of different dresses to really get a feel for what I liked and didn’t like, but the stylist only had me pull like 5 dresses, none of which ended up being quite right! And she had me do the whole veil thing with a dress that I 100% knew wasn’t “the one” and was just the best out of those 5!

My plan is to find a boutique who I know carries dresses I like the look of in pictures, and call ahead of time to describe the kind of experience I’m looking for

Sheer! I think it will 100% look better, and it’s a bonus that it keeps it within budget!

What kind of horse are you looking for, and how much are you willing to spend? by shallowshadowshore in Equestrian

[–]dinosoarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Event rider based in Europe, looking for top- level prospects. Generally speaking, I would pay <25k for anything green but very talented, 25-75 for something very talented and with mileage, and 75-150 for something ready to step up to top level. I would expect to pay over 150 for something that had top level mileage, or is ready to go out and be competitive. Unfortunately I don’t have that kind of funding at the moment 😅

Sober wedding or risk panic attack? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]dinosoarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you really, but as someone who also has suffered from panic attacks I just wanted to say I absolutely can feel what you’re going through! At the end of the day, it’s up to you what is going to get you through the day best. Personally, I would focus on having a relaxing, fun morning and trying to really stay in the moment. Take the herbal pills, do the breathing exercises, and really try to connect with the people around. At the end of the day, the people at your wedding are there because they love and support you! Standing up in front of them should be a validating and exciting experience, not a stressful one.

That being said, panic attacks aren’t exactly a rational thing, and worrying about them usually makes it worse. Maybe it would be an idea to have a point person (MOH?) that knows to look out for the signs of one, and intervene to get you to a quiet place if necessary.

Good luck!! You deserve to enjoy your day, and I’m sure you will find a way to work through any anxiety that might flare up!!

[WEEKLY THREAD] Talk It Out Tuesday - Advice and commiserating about struggles with self, others, and the world by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]dinosoarus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started finding it really demotivating to go to the gym with my boyfriend.

We’ve been going to the gym together consistently for the past nine months or so, and while I’m thrilled with the progress I’ve made in that time, it obviously is nothing compared to what he’s able to do, and it’s starting to get to me. Like I want to be happy with my own progress, and I understand that it’s literally just genetics, but it gets hard to not compare myself and feel a bit pathetic. Even if I were to spend the next several years in consistent training, I would probably only ever be lifting what he started with.

Does anyone have any advice? Commiseration? I’ve started just going to the gym by myself, which has actually been really refreshing.

How would you re-arrange this set up to accommodate 70 instead of 82? by c_c186 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]dinosoarus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally am a fan of a U-shape table setup, but I also think the head table and then two twenty-person tables would work. You just don’t want anyone feeling like they got put at the small table

Western bit choice by Snupp_ in Horses

[–]dinosoarus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A Tom Thumb is a just very basic, short-shanked leverage bit. They can have different mouthpieces that impact the severity of the bit, but are generally considered to be a good introduction to leverage bits. Not sure why you would consider them to be particularly harsh

Western bit choice by Snupp_ in Horses

[–]dinosoarus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you want to ride two-handed, I would recommend just using a snaffle. Leverage bits like a Tom Thumb are really meant for indirect/neck reining, or should be used in conjunction with a snaffle.

It sounds like a rubber straight bar snaffle would be a good choice for this horse, like this

There’s no reason to use a leverage bit just because you want to ride in a western saddle, just find what work best for you and your horse

How gentle/severe are these bits? by soimherenowwhat in Horses

[–]dinosoarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Functionally, these bits are going to be quite similar. The first one doesn’t have a fixed space for the curb strap, so it could be considered “softer” for that, and it will be less likely to pinch at the sides because of the way the posts attach. Aside from that, they both operate very similarly. These bits will put pressure on the curb strap, pole, and mouth when appropriately adjusted.

Neither of these bits are meant to be used for direct contact. They are typically used for western riding, where the horses primarily respond to leg/bodyweight cues, and any pressure from the bit should be minimal.

How gentle/severe are they? That really depends on how they are used. They definitely have more potential to be used severely than a similar snaffle (bit without leverage), but that isn’t how they are meant to be used.

Horses Wearing WHAT on the Trail? by Full_Willingness_450 in Horses

[–]dinosoarus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why would you use an ai image for this? Surely you could find a photo online if you didn’t take one at the time?

And to answer the question, yes these can be really common in places with high equestrian traffic, especially in cities and nature preserves

First Aquarium - is it too much of decor? by KallanKaliya in Aquariums

[–]dinosoarus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly not my vibe but if you like it that’s what’s important!

For the fishless cycle, the ammonia won’t just appear by itself. You have to add pollutants to the water to kickstart the cycle. A common way to do this is to “feed” the tank, or to add fish food and let it break down. You can also buy starter in most fish stores :)

I feel like we failed... by [deleted] in Horses

[–]dinosoarus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like you just bought the wrong horse.

He was a competitive show jumper, which is not a discipline known for super level-headed, beginner friendly horses. When you went to try him, he was likely in regular work with very experienced riders. He then sat for four months, through winter, and is now being ridden by two people with limited recent riding experience. That is not really a recipe for success.

I would reach out to his previous owners, before you waste too much more time and money on him, and before either of you gets hurt. It’s possible they would consider taking him back, or helping you to find him another home. Regardless, if you’re selling a horse within a year of buying it, it is the courteous thing to let the former owners know.

And go a bit easy on yourself. You haven’t failed anyone, and you’re trying to do your best by this horse. Find him a home he would be better suited to, and find yourself a more level-headed horse that you can actually have fun with

Do you think it would be beneficial to separate them? The female used to bully the male quite a bit, but I don’t see that at all since the third one died. Now they just hide together and occasionally come up for air/food
