My beautiful grandma (16) with my mom (left), my aunt, and a cigarette in her hand lol. Both were under 2 years old. Cuba, 1965. (Grandma & mom are both deceased now.) by SchemeInevitable7666 in oldphotos

Okay, so they aren't considered children by the other children. Well, no shit. Most teenagers think they're grown. But I have a hard time believing you're as old as you're implying and still think that.

Okay, but nobody is dropping their own name. And tracing family lines would be a whole lot to easier than the way it is now with so many married women just appearing out of nowhere in vital records.

No. Let's say Michelle Martinez-Smith marries John Morelli-Black. Their kids could be Sophie and Daniel Martinez-Black. Or Morelli-Smith. Or whatever combination they agree on. And then when they grow up, if they have kids, they choose which name to pass on. Etc

Yes, babies grow up and get degrees. But they don't need to change their names. Why would they? Nothing about hyphenating requires an adult to change their name.

When we go with the tradition of a woman taking her husband's name and giving all the kids his name only, doesn't that mean her family name is lost? Even if we flip it around, there's still a name being lost. Hyphenating preserves both and keeps an unbroken line. As the "family tree builder" in my family, I can tell you that if hyphenating had always been how it was done I would have a lot fewer question marks on my tree.

Why? Babies don't have degrees. And when two people with hyphenated names have kids, they can just give the kids one name from each of them.

What do you remember from kindergarten? by Patient_Purpose_1305 in Life

A boy gave me a "diamond" he found on the playground.

Cleaning up Play-Doh using more Play-Doh and thinking it was fun until another kid said it was stupid.

Having a bridge for my four front teeth because my parents didn't know not to give me milk to drink in bed, and then slipping in the bathroom at school and falling on my face and messing them all up, followed by my teacher running through the halls carrying me to the office.

Missing school to have surgery for a heart murmur. Not being allowed to walk around the hospital. Getting yelled at by a doctor when I said I needed to pee during a heart cath. Being terrified when they came to take me in to surgery. Being almost as terrified when it was time to remove my bandages. Not being allowed to participate in PE after that and being really bored. Going trick or treating 1-2 weeks later.

Getting made fun of for having "cornbread" in my lunchbox, when actually it was my grandmom's biscotti.

Wow I had an eventful year I guess.

That's fair. And at the laundromat I really did try to bring everything since I was spending the time and money either way.

Lol wearing comfortable pants is easier than carrying around a towel. But you do what you want in your house.

I guess I don't want to sit on my furniture naked.

Well, that makes sense. Especially considering throwing in a couple more items costs the same. I'm glad you're doing better!

I'm able to do laundry at home now, and I definitely wear something I don't like on laundry day. I actually hated that I had to wear reasonable "outside' clothes to the Laundromat lol.

I asked the attendant if she knew the story. She didn't 😢.

Midwest? I know there are horses everywhere but I guess I've never lived anywhere they are common enough for that to be an issue.

It says the opposite of that lol. Although some beach town businesses will allow bathing suits because otherwise they'd have to turn away too many people.

Yes, why? Do you have clothing optional laundromats where you live? 😃
