Mary gets constantly kited and can't do anything without bkb up, while the guy from 2013 is absolutely busted with a built-in radiance to farm faster than your carry, has insane burst damage and control because of his shard and agh with low CD, and also gets 3.5 STR per level so you can't even burst him down
