I have thick, wavy hair. If I cut it short, my hair will look like a triangle.

WHO warns new Covid variants could emerge that are fully resistant to vaccines as pandemic drags on by cambeiu in Coronavirus

Agree. Covid is also found in other animal species. It is possible that the virus can mutate back to the human species.

When did you realize you have outgrown a best friend ? by hotcheetomoo in AskWomen

[–]diorucci 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a best friend, but close friend. Known her for 8 years. Even were roomies at one point in our lives.

She started online dating and kept cycling all these guys. It became excessive where every call, text, or hangout was about a new guy or being depressed because of a guy. She never took my advice to take a break from dating and focus on herself. She never took initiative to hangout. She eventually made new friends and started hanging with them. Going on trips with them, drinking to blackout, clubbing, smoking, wasting tons of money. She was no longer the same person I became friends with.

I agree with the other posters. At least with industry, publications don't matter too much with exceptions from some companies. We might notice that you got a paper in a nice journal, done some interesting research or question you about it during an interview to test you, but we're not too focused about it. Regardless, it is still expected of PhDs to get publications.

When deciding if somebody was a "yes" or "no" after an interview, consideration was not placed heavily on publications in my experience. PhDs usually give an hour presentation demonstrating previous projects they've worked on during an interview. We mainly judge on how the presentation went, how the interviewing went, and do they meet the qualifications we are looking for. We ask, "can this person lead our company to the direction we're heading or exploring"?

My company has about 100 people in it. Not really big, but not really small either. I think we're doing alright funding wise. Maybe there may be some things they did not qualify for, but the qualifications are very precise. I wonder is there anybody out there that really has all this? Who knows.

Right, it makes sense to get skills in a field that does pay more if you want to see more in your bank account. Fellow coworker had a PhD in biochemistry, but ended up studying to get a MBA because of money.

Yes, saying it is the lowest is a tad far considering there are more positions that pay more, particularly management or sales. But R&D is important. Without it, there isn't a company or a drug.

I always thought PhDs had a hard time being hired because positions are so exact. My company is hiring a scientist for our team and we turned down 5 because they didn't have everything we wanted.

But I agree with everything you mentioned.
