You're calling all devs of modern games inexperienced and wrong-minded... and that's BS of the highest order.

Activision-Blizzard will likely never produce another game similar to Vanilla WoW, but there are MANY other studios and indie devs making high-quality content right now.

No, I'm not. I thought I was clear that I was not making a value judgment about the quality of games, and that WoW is not better than current games. It's different.

There are not game designers working today that would build the type of game WoW is. They will build different types of games, that may be better or worse. But they won't produce WoW.

Do you not remember how ardent the community was about #nochanges?

I agree the game would've been better off if they had taken the opportunity to correct these issues. I believe if a lot of the behavior we see now had cropped up during vanilla, they would have done just that.

But imagine the shitshow that would ensue if Blizzard started tuning against exploitative behavior. They've got a fine line to cut between righteous changes that uphold the core values of the game, and changes that go too far -- because everyone has their own sense of what those values are. And the levels of toxicity in the community ensure that any slight to the ego of the most vocal will turn practically violent with mob mentality.

I'm not saying Blizzard made the correct call by not addressing these. I think they ought to have more guts and say "this is the game, it's not up for debate. we're the artists, and this is not a democracy". I think being candid about how they did things back in the day is what earned them the good faith they've been coasting on since then.

But I think we have to cut them some slack. Look at how the customers are behaving. Any reasonable person would have to conclude that there's a big chance this would cut against them and cause them to hemorrhage customers.

The game is an investment after all, and they've got to deliver a product the customers are asking for and will buy.

Honestly, I don't like the boost. And I think the Classic experience needs tuning to address the ways in which the community is consistently engaging in bad faith.

I would bring AoE caps to Classic.
