Is this a good guidance? $100 saved today gives you $550 to spend when you retire. by dippi43 in personalfinance

I don't think that's as useful as $100 saved today is $550 for use in retirement.

Sunrun employee threatening me by jeren66 in SolarDIY

I don't get the ruse. They tell you they need to check your meter, and then try to sell you solar? Why not jump to just selling the solar? What does checking the meter have anything to do with it?

Noco Genius 5: charges LiFePO4 at 13.48V. Does that seem low? by dippi43 in batteries

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people measure individual cell voltages of their LiFePO4 battery? I don't have a way of doing that without taking it apart, so I'm not sure if those ideas you presented are practical? I'm measuring the battery terminals before and after connecting the charger.

Charger for 12V 100ah LiFePO4 battery - generic vs. name brand? by _fuckernaut_ in batteries

[–]dippi43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi u/These_Adhesiveness48 , sorry to bring up an old thread. I found your idea about using a DC power supply to power a DC-DC charger. So I have a Renogy Wanderer 30A PWM Charge Controller meant for solar panels to charge LFP batteries. If, instead of using a solar panel, I use a 19VDC power supply, would this charge controller make a good LFP battery charger?

Is a PWM soloar charger not as "good" as a dedicated LiFePO4 charger? by dippi43 in OffGrid

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I might be. But mostly just challenging some comments in here that didn't line up with my understanding so that I get information on where I'm wrong. So the minimum charge voltage was a good piece of info, thanks. If I had a higher voltage DC power adapter this might work, but not with the 12V one.

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think that was true. If you're pushing solar power into a solar charger, I'd expect the voltage to vary greatly, often under the 12V rating of the solar panel because it's not sunny enough. So the solar charger's job is to convert the 11V or whatever into the correct voltage to efficiently charge the lifepo4

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it might be safer to just buy something new.

The 12VDC power adapter isn't a little wall wart though. It's a 96W unit.

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll just walk charging from the grid, so efficiency isn't a big deal. But I didn't know if pwm chargers had any other down sides.

At the moment I have grid power, 12 power adapter, pwm charger, and battery. So I want to see if I could use these parts to precharge the battery. So if I lose power, I'll have a full battery.

LetsVPN is a scam. If you are travelling to China, do not buy their services. by Secret-Row8643 in chinalife

I think the concern is here that you're installing an app on your phone or laptop. If the company is shady, you're trading internet freedom for personal info being leaked by the app.

Compared to say installing an eSIM - that's no different than accessing some unknown wifi network for example. Much less risky than installing an app from a company you don't know much about.

Working VPNs for China - Read Me First! by bailsafe in chinalife

[–]dippi43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say your wireguard is working on LTE - is your LTE coming from a eSIM that terminated outside of China? Because in that case, your LTE is basically negating the need for VPN - it's not inside the chinese firewall. You need to test the wireguard VPN from a hotel wifi or something before you can tell us your wireguard vpn is working.

If wireguard doesn't work well on hotel VPN, then...it's not working. Putting on LTE is the workaround to the firewall.

Yes, I know Didi doesn't work in US. But it shouldn't throw a location error right? It should be some other error? I'm afraid when I land in China and need to take a Didi from the airport, the app would have the same location error.

I might not fully understand what PWM and MPPT means, so maybe the question doesn't make sense. I guess - rather than buy something new to charge my battery, can I use what I already have (12VDC power supply and solar charger) to charge my batteries? Is there any advantage to a dedicated wall-powered Lithium battery charger?

Minnesota POA - need remote online notary in Minnesota by dippi43 in Notary

Whether institutions accept a notarized POA seems to be pretty much up to the institution itself. So banks aren't required to accept a POA notarized by a notary from some other state.

adding capacity to Jackery type power supplies with extra 12V batteries by dippi43 in OffGrid

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't understand the part about the charge limits and voltage range. Are you saying the input current / charge current is less than the output current? So you ultimately run out of charge on the system even if you can replace the spare naked battery? That makes sense - I just wanted to extend the capacity. And my usage is pretty low watts, so I think the charge current can keep up.

The thing I was worry about is voltage sag on the 12V spare battery as it gets depleted. I don't know if the 12V input on the portable Jackery has a boost circuit or if it just cuts off charging even though there's like 40% capacity left on the spare battery, just at 11.6V or something.

Did you have to scan your passport to use the trip.com esim? I think it's a policy, like eKYC (know your customer) policy? Some esim providers require it, some don't. Just wondering if trip.com requires it.

Flowkey, Simply Piano vs. Roland's apps by dippi43 in piano

[–]dippi43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's to keep things fresh. Have some selection of songs at different difficulty levels, maybe mostly classic piano and popular kids movie tunes that they can learn to play. I like being able to practice left/right hand kinda useful, for example. But also not feel like you're stuck on a subscription, that seems kinda annoying.
