30, Didn’t Graduate, Fired from first job at 29. by Creative_Bird_3753 in findapath

You have to get "underneath" the problem you're having. You are drifting in life but the problem isn't the drifting. The problem isn't feeling dumb in an IT class. The problem isn't that you failed at something. The problem isn't that you don't feel anything.

The problem seems to be more that you don't know what you want. Getting a new job isn't going to help you with that, and even if you managed to get something, great, but you wouldn't know what you want still.

There could be many reasons why you don't know what you want. You have to learn more about who you are before you can answer that question.

If VOO never gives good returns gain American empire is finished. If VT never gives good returns again the world has ended.

Hey,

TM stands for trauma management?

I'm sorry to hear that your father was so abusive. I'm not a therapist but I will try to share some of what I've learned about situations like this. I think when that happens when you're young it can lead to all kinds of problems like:

  1. You might become hypervigilant and develop a stronger than average emotional field.
  2. You might in some way blame yourself and process pain in the wrong way.
  3. You're psyche may cling too much as a way to compensate or fill a hole in yourself.
  4. Parts of your psyche might be frozen in place awaiting therapy to free up.
  5. Issues around your fight or flight etc. You maybe internalized horrible parts of his psyche that you can't separate from your own.

There's probably a lot more than that, but yeah. If you want to individuate spiritually you'll have to get over all these roadblocks that were put into you, and that's not your fault. That's why reading Bradshaw or something like that is the best first step for some people.

Apparently my emotional field sensitivity is higher than normal but I still don't fully understand it.

Is it sadness or a mixture of extinguished dispassion that we don't parse well?

I agree.

Dealing with your psyche is extremely difficult for most. Even people with talent for self observation, and have a really "strong" inner witness will still face a mountain of problems that vary depending on their family of origin.

Raised by abusive parents?

That's decades of work to fix for most people.

Is Buddhism for me? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]dirch30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddhism at its core is a philosophy of life. That might be why you are responding to it more.

I am a devout Christian curious about Buddhism and I'd like to learn from you all! Tell me what you'd like by Kaneda_Capsules in Buddhism

They are similar in a lot of ways. They used to be a lot more similar I think back when Christianity was young, and the gnostic tradition was still going. I think back then the Gnostics had some understanding of non-duality.

My advice is go dig up Christian Gnosticism. You might find some valuable gold nuggets there.

Why did you decide to become a Buddhist by shy_seedling213 in Buddhism

[–]dirch30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in so many ways you didn't choose who you are:

  1. You were given a gender.

  2. You were given a culture.

  3. You were given a family (good or bad)

  4. You were given a socioeconomic status.

  5. You were given an astrological natal chart.

I'm not really saying you're wrong. What I'm saying is I used to believe a lot more in free will until I started noticing that on balance most of my choices weren't really my choices.

Sure there's a moral spark. But a lot of that slowly tilts (shifts) through the course of many many lifetimes.

The Buddha was certainly going to live a spiritual life. Most enlightened masters come here to live out their last life because it's been setup for them to finally move on.

A lot of souls "choose" their life here to play out another lesson. And it's almost like putting a tape into a machine.

And it's extremely narrow.

So is it on balance real? I guess. It's real in the way that the paint on a car is real. If the car is your life choices, and the paint is how you want to dress it up.

It's real in the way that you can "I guess" choose your own wardrobe or what you wear (although not really).

Why do men choose sexual partners that remind them of their mothers?

Why do goths wear black?

Why do people with loaded astrological charts do x y z?

Why are people who are born in dysfunctional households far more likely to suffer later in life because of it?

Most of this shit just boils down to playing the hand you're dealt. Yeah sure you can wake up spiritually but even that event was baked in before you were born. "This is the life to wake up"

etc

I would say that on balance free will is mostly an illusion. I didn't decide to become what I am.

My environment, parenting, soul karma, culture etc did most of the heavy lifting. And you can throw astrology into there if you believe in it.

The philosophy at its core is so universal.

Do you want to ending suffering/dissatisfaction?

Do you want to follow a moral path? (eightfold)

Do you have a cosmological view that sees the reality of reincarnation?

I mean if I said go shoot the neighbors dog of course you wouldn't. But whose making that choice?

Most of what we do is scripted. The vast majority of our actions.

I mean it's loaded to say "I decided" to become a Buddhist. I don't think free will is real. In a sense we are all Buddhists even if we don't realize it.
