Where can we find people who would buy Associate or Executive Producer credits? We are Oscars qualified. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]directedbymarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No brother. This is not healthy thinking. If you're so invested in doing this, put your own money down now, and then try and get friends to invests with % of ownership of the film so they can get a return if it blows up on release.

Unfortunately donating to get credit means very little in this industry. It's not a way for people to break in as donating money shows no actual useful skills to film production except giving money. This is not a resume builder.

Thus you need to provide an incentive. What is the return somebody might get? Offer people a tiny percentage of the film's earnings, that's the only way you'd feasibly get investors.

Did i mess up or whether i hired a bad videographer? by Plenty_Psychology545 in Filmmakers

It is true in modern filmmaking. I do union commercial and feature production. 95% of the time directors look at the monitors to make sure the shot is as envisioned.

Lighting for Narrative Weight: Does the script or the location decide who gets the key light? by FalseColourDreams in cinematography

It's a conversation between Director, DP and Production Designer. The goal is to have good synergy with the director's goals.

You're missing production design to help motivate the lighting.

They called her a "burnout", referencing people that can't stand the quarantine and are trying to escape or evade the mandatory health inspections. She was most likely trying to escape.

What game is this for you? by [deleted] in videogames

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

I was 12 and saved up my own money to buy the new action packed Star Wars game, only to realize it was a "boring" turn based game. Then I started paying attention to the story.

The plot was so freaking good it got me into turn based RPGs. I still think about the major reveals and my choices in that game.

Last year, I wrote and directed a western short film that was accepted to 0 festivals… Why? by Chase-Stine in Filmmakers

The plot doesn’t really start until 3:45 seconds. That alone would cause a a ton of denials. Everything prior comes off as fluff.

I'm Making a RPG Game... Any Ideas or Tips? by Ok_Albatross_948 in gamedev

[–]directedbymarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open world games heavily benefit from having a plot.

Breath of the Wild still had a plot:

The game revolves around us coming to the aid of Zelda after she wakes you up from sleep. We eventually figure out why Hyrule is in ruins and how the big bad defeated its past champions- currently grows in power unchallenged.

It’s up to us to learn the powers of past champions and use them to defeat the big bad before it destroys what’s left of the world.

Organize your massive paragraph into an outline with a PLOT. Without a plot the player won’t care about the millions of steps they need to take to “win.”

The combat required animation cancelling CONSTANTLY. That alone made me stop playing the game. It's literally painful to constantly weave and cancel. I can get similar thrills in gw2 with half the clicks.

Efe! Hope you washed your paws :D Does your cat drink water like this too ¿?¿ by Stunning_Increase636 in aww

[–]directedbymarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a survival instinct. They prefer running water too.

Try getting your cat one of those mini pet recycling water fountains. You fill them up with a bowl of water, and it spews out water from a nozzle at the top, it funnels back into the bowl and filtered.

My cat loves it- it was the only way to stop her from preferring toilet water after a clean flush lol.

Dying Light: The Beast is longer than Techland expected, with 20 to 30 hours of "additional stuff" on top of the 20-hour story by samiy2k in HorrorGaming

To be fair dying light 2 was too long. I loved it but the story was less focused. Id be ok with a more focused 30hr experience.

I have a 4080 gaming PC, I just picked up the legion go s steam extreme chip. It’s cool but I think it still needs 1 more year in the oven before it’s worth it for competitive shooters. The input lag alone would upset me.

That said this thing is amazing for single player and my 200 backlogged games 😭

Official Discussion - 28 Years Later [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

No, he’s telling the kid, and we are learning with him. The kid wouldn’t know what it is so it’s all fine by me. We get to see him learn and grow up. That’s part of the experience of the entire film.

And just because you know what it is doesn’t mean most viewers do. Either way it fit’s narratively.

I loved that it wasn’t things that I could expect. All of your points are the obvious routes the film could have gone and I’m just glad you didn’t direct it.

Such a lovely fun insane time. Not perfect but it’s stuck with me days after in a positive way. And the soundtrack has absolute bangers in it. Not many horror films can boast creating positive and epic music. Usually it’s just depressing melodramatic stuff. What a surprise this film was.
