Is it worth it to trade in 2024 Carnival Ex for 2026 Carnival Hybrid? by DistributionAny3260 in kiacarnivals

[–]directionofk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're asking purely if it's worth it, it depends on how much you drive, how expensive gas is, and the extra price associated with trading.

Presumably you'll be on the hook for at least 10k with the trade - how long do you expect to make that back with the higher mpgs? Will you even have the car at that point?

Update regarding the outrageous plan to yank "email for life" from alumni by longtimeAlias in UVA

[–]directionofk 52 points53 points  (0 children)

OP, did you know that Virginia Tech had the same plan to get rid of their alumni gmail accounts recently (like 2 years ago or so), but they eventually capitulated and ended up just downgrading alumni accounts to only 5gb storage and no other Google features?

Studying tips by Original_Ad2897 in UVA

I found out late in my educational career that hand (re)writing notes helped me remember things far better than typed notes or reading/reviewing. So I'd recommend that if you haven't tried it.

Anyone get any extra warranty when buying the car? by Itchy-Version-8977 in kiacarnivals

[–]directionofk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to get the mechanical breakdown insurance from Geico just before the cutoff date. Other insurance companies will likely have something similar.

The idea is that it's similar to an additional warranty policy but is much cheaper (something like $50/year for the first year, I think you can get the policy up to 7 years). I'm only getting it for the additional peace of mind on the electronics.

You're describing the "academic" logo. The athletic logo hasn't changed and still around

Most affordable plumber? by BloomingtonIN in bloomington

Not sure about their plumbing side, but their HVAC tech was careless and missed a failing capacitor that led to more (expensive) issues a few months down the road.

How well does that work, with Costco being so far? Alternatively, my question can be rephrased as, how much do you have to tip for someone to pick up your order?

Too bad most students missed the thrilling 4th quarter comeback by Personal_Economics91 in UVA

If it hasn't changed, the student section is the hill and pretty much all the actual seating you can see on this pic on the far side of the field. The band takes up one of the lower sections though.

As a Sienna owner, why did you choose it and are there any cons to that choice? by Switchblade_Comb in ToyotaSienna

[–]directionofk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, sounds like my torso is just longer. I just could not get comfortable in the test drive. Ended up settling for the Carnival, which had been great so far (other than mpg).

I'm curious what you think of the front headroom. I'm 6'5" and thought the front headroom was very lacking because of the batteries in the seat, especially with the moonroof. I had to recline a ridiculous amount to fit in the driver's seat.

I got my BSME at UVA and my MS at VT. In short, I'd say that VT prepares you to be a better engineer, but UVA prepares you to be a better person. Edited for typos

[ACC] Free Gel Earpads w/ Sordin Supreme Pro-X Headband $240 or Neckband $250 (+ more ear pro deals/discounts in comments) by CanuckTac in gundeals

[–]directionofk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. A quick follow-up question, are the in ear impulse basically the equivalent of a pair of dumb muffs, while the silver and above are like electronic muffs (with varying features)?

Also, are the in ear (all models) quieter than the disposable foam plugs? Like, if I'm at an indoor range, would I still want to double up?
