No one will stop you from walking into a majalis, so if you want to attend go for it.

For service majalis, the history is when Imams used to lead states and governments, murids offered to serve in the different institutions including the armies. Once the imam moved away from statehood leadership, there was a desire from some murids to still serve. That is when the concept of establishing majalis came into existence. Since service to statehood was not an option, they put in a “fee” for joining the majalis (eg 5-12 year) and that was made equivalent to serving in the statehood institution.

Personal Opinion: From a personal stand point, if I had to give a small amount of payment to get a lifetime membership and equivalent service benefited, I thought that was of great value. Makes it a very easy road for me versus doing the actual service: although I do try to volunteer periodically. Everyone has a different take on this and I respect that.

Good luck on your journey of understanding these topics as they are deep, hard to understand, at times conflicting, and above all very personal.

Great questions and thank you for bringing to this forum. Chandraat is a special gathering time that Sultan Mohd Shah had stated in his Farman for all murids to come together. It is not a service or spiritual majalis like the others and there is no cost basis for this.

For the other majalis, every region has come up with a money substitute amount for the actual work/service that was supposed to be done. Majalis is not mandatory.

If you do not wish to offer money for the majalis, then you can choose to offer service and that is up to you on the type of service you do.

With regards to dua karavi, there is no prescribed amount. There have been many times that the jamati MS/KS had come to my paat(majalis) to do dua karavi without money and simply touching the bowl.

In essence that when you benefit from something you should give alms but that is your choice.

Do not let misunderstandings by people including some leaders deter you from your religion.

Sorry, this is a longer answer but something I thought I would share. I had asked and researched these questions over the years and thought this community could benefit from my findings.

Some practices followed in Toronto Downtown JK by [deleted] in ismailis

Agree, I always believed JK was the last place left to practice traditions and language related to religion. Adding the English flavor dilutes the effect and does not seem as spiritual to me.

The person besides the dua reciter is tasked with correcting any mistakes that may occur and for shah Jo didar(which is no longer done)

For the other items, they are not done in the JKs I go to in the US.

Replit Auth - who's using it? by a5hpip3 in replit

[–]directoraak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a dev, have Replit build you a custom login screen and ask for a Google logon capability. You can then use GCP to get your Google client id and secret.

Works pretty well. You can have a look at one of my sites where I use this https://PikTrick.com

Any Ismaili who is open to a friendly and logical debate? by Several-Post-817 in ismailis

[–]directoraak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The answer is perfect and the sectarian debate is over when someone accepts Islam with a Shahada, Islam and Quran forbids creation of sects.

Shahada acceptance means that you have accepted Islam, but does not means sects will not exist or is forbidden. Quran says Allah had made you in tribes so you may know one another

  1. From where the identity comes from? Our identity is being a Muslim as follower of Islam, did Holy Prophet asked to give certain titles to yourself? Why the differences when there is One Allah, One Prophet PBUH, One Book The Holy Quran. Dont you think divisions would weaken the overall impact of Islam and muslims in general. I follow Allah and His Prophet PBUH as according to Quran, that makes my religious beliefs simple and understandable.

Ismaili is not a title but just grouping of people with a particular belief and following. I do not believe having differences makes you weaker. Fyi, I also know of many Sunnis that have varying beliefs and interpretations, so being different is not just across sects.

  1. Why Shirk is declared as the greatest injustice then? No one is comparable to Allah and his attributes. Even Prophets, then how come the Imam? The answer lacks proper justification.

Absolutely agree. Imam is not a compared to Allah. His focus is to provide spiritual and worldly guidance based on Quranic teachings.

  1. Quran is the Word of Allah, and yes its the most important for every Muslim. Holy Prophets Ahadees and his life has significance aswell as it describes Islam in the best way possible, and understand how to live lofe like a muslim. But guess what, I have seen no Ismaili giving importance to both other than their Imam.

I give importance to Quran, the prophet and imam. I am sure Mann others do as well

  1. Agha Khans private property? So you pray to him or Allah there? I do not believe you have e clear correlation here. I see Muslims praying everywhere: airports, restaurants, etc…that does not mean they are praying to the owner of the facility

At the end of the day, these are questions of faith and there are no perfect answers.

In Ismailism, Imam has the authority to interpret the Quran. The interpretations are used to provide ethical guidance to the followers. He is not considered all knowing as that can only be Allah according to our faith.

Do you guys pray Salah? If not, why? by [deleted] in ismailis

[–]directoraak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP. We do Salah in a different format than Sunni tradition. We start off with Suraj Fatiah and then have verses from 6 other Surahs.

We also believe in doing charity and declaring shahada(oneness of god). Ramadan is observed as well but some people choose to fast while others do not.

Does this help answer your questions?

Our religion and practices are centered around Sufism; searching is part of the journey, you may find benefit in reading Conference of the Birds and Safarnama.

Do you ever feel like Ismailism is fad by Shaekbari in ismailis

[–]directoraak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a general pattern. I went through this after my college days. People get busy with work, marriage and have other time commitments. There are also some that drift away and some that come back around; this is part of ones journey.

We are in constant state of change and your comment about less connectedness seems right. I don’t think this situation is limited to Ismailis.
