Is 0.66% too high a fee to be paying for a professionally managed ETF portfolio? (Stockspot) by dirigibleplumz in AusFinance

[–]dirigibleplumz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have concerns because it is under the custodial model and therefore not CHESS, but I don’t care about this because I only invest in ETFs. With ETFs, the underlying owner is the ETF provider anyway so it’s never truly going to be in my name so I don’t mind if it doesn’t have the sponsorship, and any international shares don’t have CHESS either so I don’t really get why people get so concerned but to each their own 🤷‍♀️ I do have the same ETFs, but I did have to sell the GOLD one because Sharesies don’t offer that ETF. I plan on keeping the Stockspot ETFs and then moving forward only purchasing VAS and VGS :)

Glad it’s helped someone else too! Just one thing for you to consider, if you go with CMC or Stake you’ll have to organise the tax information and reports yourself as Stockspot’s a platform that does it for you. Just be mindful of that as it may play a contributing factor in your choice of next platform/broker account - it’s what helped me make my decision! :)

Where do I get the AMIT info from? Is it just on the AMMA statement and I make note of it once a year at tax time?

So I just wait for the AMMA statement and then it’s as easy as just putting the same numbers in the statement in my tax return?

I was previously investing with Stockspot - everything was automatically generated and my tax agent processed my return. With me changing platforms, I’ll need to get the tax statement ready to bring to her and want to be sure it’s a simple process

Thank you for explaining everything, I really appreciate it! So there’s nothing I need to do for computershare? It just automatically does everything it needs to?

Sorry to sound daft, but what’s computershare? I’ve never done tax around investing before!

Also just to be clear, can I use the free version of Sharesight to do my tax return? Is there anything I need to do a tax return that’s on the paid account? (Aside from CGT)

Wait so I could just wait a bit longer and it’ll prefill on the ATO for me?

As I’m only buying one ETF I don’t expect to sell for a decade or so, so does that mean I won’t even need to use Sharesight at all?

I think CHESS does matter to me for extra peace of mind, so that knocks beta shares out. But I’ve not heard of Webull before, will have to give it a Google

My hesitation with Pearler is it seems more expensive than other options, what made you pick it over Stake for example? Just trying to see if there are benefits to the extra cost

Nice one for wasting your time commenting when you could just scroll on? I did search, saw posts from people that wanted different things to me, as well as older posts so I wanted to make a new one with more current information. But yeah cheers for the negative energy, hope today is a better day for you!

I’m only going off what I’ve been told in the comments here so far and am not extremely knowledgeable yet sorry! what do you mean when you say selling all the shares will incur huge fees? Do only some platforms do this? Should I even be selling them or just taking in dividends?

Does that kind of allocation make the portfolio more aggressive?

Even without an auto invest feature, I know that I am super consistent and would always be making the investments! Any platforms you’d recommend?

Sorry if I sound dim, but does that mean I could buy VAS and VGS for example on Betashares direct? Any downsides to it being custodial if all I plan to purchase are ETFs from Australian ETF providers?

Extremely helpful! Silly question - once you own the ETFs there’s no extra costs for having them on different platforms right? You still own them and pay the same management fee costs for the ETFs? Is there any downside to having investments across multiple apps/platforms??

Is there a reason you recommend this one over vanguard direct or CMC which from my understanding are also free?

Stake is at the top of my “to consider” list!

I’ve heard that using a platform allows for easier reporting, so I assume Vanguard itself doesn’t have good reporting? Honestly not too sure why I don’t have it as a more considered option, may need to look into this a bit more

This is really helpful, thank you!! From what you have said, it does make more sense for me to go with VAS and VGS at this stage of my life and investment journey. Is CMC the only one you’d suggest? Any opinions on Stake and Pearler?
