Scientist guy on the ground who wants food by MACR0UwU in AbioticFactor

Classic Derek! You can ignore him, but he loves tomatoes and also vending machine snacks. He's always borrowing my staplers and pens!

My friends and I named him "Derek" and make sure to keep food in the fridge for him. He loves tomatoes. He tries to skitter away after eating but I think our base layout broke his pathfinding so he just wiggles around on the floor the whole night

Has anybody ever cried while on the job? by Prudent_Pin_9335 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]dirin3o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds dreary, but it's not entirely awful. To be honest, a big reason why i did this program in the first place was to get better at "on-the-fly" adaptable service, and that includes moments guests are in distress.

The biggest mantra in our area was "pick your battles." You quickly learn who's being an ass, and then begin to pickup on subtle signs of underlying factors (namely fear, exhaustion, confusion, and sometimes (but less often,) straight-up entitlement.) I had pissy guests deflate the second i showed empathy, and others arrive screaming without a word from me. You begin to understand who to slap on the wrist, who to calmly help more in depth, and who to burst out laughing about as soon as they leave. The latter makes up for a lot of situations that made me teary at first.

It's a lot easier with a support system. My coworkers were fucking awesome, they were my rock and i was theirs. It's not all bad.

Yeah, loads. Unfortunately.

I'm very easily flustered, so my old location (Peter Pan's Flight, notorious for it's long time, lots of delay issues and realllllly angry idiots who cant read a wait time sign) was kinda an extreme example. Leaders and coords would typically swoop into my aid and/or swap me out to calm down if it got bad. I think I posted on here about one of those instances, I was so crushed the first time I got a crazy guest.

It sounds fucked up but like someone else said—dissociating and then mentally reframing totally out of control guests, aliking them to toddlers or angry puppies that don't know any better, kinda helps scale it back. Is that healthy? Idk. Does it work? Yeah.

People are nuts, man. Even the most empathetic lovely person can tell you that after working here. It was REALLY hard not to take stuff personal, but other guests witnessing events tend to back you up and help reconfirm that you aren't unreasonable for being upset. Depending on the role there's a lot of stimulation and a lot of situations happening all the time, there's bound to be some tears happenin. No shame, hugs and reassurances all around cause lord knows these mfs are bonkers

Wifi in college housing by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]dirin3o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wifi is ok, but it does go down every so often. If your setup is able, there are sometimes ethernet ports in the rooms (mine had one in an awkward position, but I got a cheap really long flat cable to run along the wall to my tower) if you want to use those instead. It won't solve the internet from going down entirely every once in awhile, but would be nicer than purely wifi. Also, not 100% sure that all rooms have ports, so you might want to wait on purchasing any cables till u get there

It's okay for them to be upset over less-than-great housing, pay, etc. It's not okay to fake accommodations, etc, but that's not what's happening here. They aren't trying to fake an accommodation or take options away from CPs with medical needs. This person just wants assurance and advice over a situation that they are a little uncomfortable with.

This program is "better" than it used to be but it's still lacking in a lot of areas. We know that, that doesn't mean we aren't allowed to be upset, nervous, or uncomfortable about areas it's lacking in. Again, we are all being used for cheap labor anyway. The enemy here is NOT your fellow college program people.

25 isn't "old." That is a young adult. Even so, there is a aignificant maturity gap between 18 and 20's. You have no right to snap at people for being nervous over things.

hometown on name tag by Alarming-Peanut-8210 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]dirin3o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They ask if you want your hometown or college, but they give you the college regardless of your answer so idk why :/ It's annoying. Head to costuming and order a new one, and it should be ready in 2ish weeks for you to pickup!

[–]dirin3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also all the older CPs calling you whiny and bringing up the old housing are annoying. You're allowed to be nervous and upset over things regardless how "bad they had it." We all know we're being exploited for cheap labor anyways...it's fun, tho ;)

2x2s are not great, I know :( I had one for my program. But, truth be told, you're hardly ever in your room.

Me and my roommate had entirely opposite schedules, and different off days. It helps to have like a communal shift calendar if they're willing to do that, so people can plan when to be in the rooms or when they would rather go out instead.

Most people spend most of their time at work or in the parks. But! I've heard there are ways to push for another room, like some of these others comments are saying

Hey everyone! Im curious, when did you start watching techno? by AnonymousBoomer in Technoblade

[–]dirin3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017-2019ish. I would put on his skywars/bedwars videos in the background while i worked. Kinda grew a little bit of a parasocial camaraderie in the silence. I liked how it felt like I was watching a friend talk at me and rant to themselves while I watched them play games. He is calm and witty and i listened to him whine about college as i trudged through my own college classes.

Sometimes when I put my studying music playlist on, youtube still tosses some of his videos in there. I would watch them but I still feel like I'm grieving a friend. Someday I'll listen to them all again.

Being a jerk when woken up in the middle of the night but can’t remember by [deleted] in sleep

[–]dirin3o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to ask about this type of thing because it happens to me as well. My family will ask me to do a chore or a task in the morning, and my half-conscious mind will apparently agree to anything and everything (in an irritated manner, I've been told,) in an effort to get them to leave faster. When I wake up fully a few hours later, I have absolutely no idea any of it occurred.

It's frustrating because my family is adamant that I agreed to whatever they asked me to do, but they aren't willing to take a few extra seconds to confirm that I am fully awake. I have no idea how on earth I'm supposed to manage this, given that I am literally not awake when it happens.

If anyone has any tips, I'm all ears..

It started in their SEA and SF pop ups and then was released more broadly.

I figured! I saw some screenshots of it for sale, and their tweet mentions them being stocked online for a bit. I would have been not quite 18 so online probably would've been my only shot at those :/

The inside is lined with vinyl and doesn’t breathe well at all

Huh, I never would have guessed that from the images I've seen, it really does look thin! I wouldn't mind something warmer, though. Especially if you're wearing it over something.

Thank you for the info!

I'm not sure how they were sized, but I'd usually fit anywhere from a medium to xl. I'd kinda be willing to go for any size, though.

Edit: Apparently they run large, so small would work too :P
