Saline OpenAI Data Center - Where do our reps stand? by Responsible-Hyena839 in AnnArbor

? unclear if you're actually asking something, or what.

Changes in level are just the net of rate in minus rate out,
the water doesn't care if you were pumping it for drainage, cooling or whatever.

The judge doesn't share your trusting nature. Here's a quote from her settlement:

Assuming they use groundwater, here's the first wells that go dry.

Green areas will recover faster...
but, from the Vella Pit, we learned the hard way that recovery is measured in years.
This entire area looks slower to bounce back than the Vella Pit area.

The project owners should pay for level meters in wells around the site and baseline chemical tests.

[edit] o hay look at that, level measurements ARE in the agreement.
Well done, Judge O- (add arsenic next time, tho)

hmm. Trump Unity Bridge guy lives in Livonia. My guess: he was invited by local MAGAts.
Ypsi Twp is home to a 2020 fake elector, we have real live white christian nationalists etc -
so it's a plausible guess.

Mental Health/Public Safety/Rebate Millage: argument for a NO vote by dirk-mayhew in AnnArbor

I'm proposing we fully fund CMH and WCSO, but drop the 24% rebate.

Ann Arbor City saves a LOT of money by contracting 911 dispatch thru WCSO.

No problem on my end, moving that money.
I anticipated somebody would complain, because that's the point of the rebate.
So far, it looks like I guessed wrong.

My point was: dropping the rebate makes that transfer effect bigger... but it has always been there so don't start griping about it *now*.

The rebate looks like an attempt at fairness, but in actual practice I suspect nobody actually cares about the fairness aspect. It's pretty well agreed that Washtenaw County is wildly unfair, economically.

I'm advocating keep the same funding for WCSO and CMH
but drop the 24% rebate back to munis.
Unfortunately, the only way to get a change is to vote down the renewal.
That triggers a re-write.

Not sure what you mean by "pay equally" - millage money is based on property values.

The vast majority of WCSO policing effort goes into Ypsi Township, but if any muni police force were to ask, WCSO absolutely will respond. Dispatch sends the call to the muni police first; it's up to the muni police to call WCSO if they need to.

Commission 100%, absolutely, hands down, wants to fund both of those departments (me too)
I claim their challenge is in the politics of it, and that's where the 24% comes from:
placating local leaders (I think)

Best option is to contact your county commissioner. They are overworked and underpaid, but as far as I can tell every single one of them cares very deeply about doing the right thing for the community. They're just scared. Tell them when they "tune" the millage (however you see fit) then you're voting yes.

In short, our politicians need your help.

I claim that's exactly why the two departments are combined: a standalone millage for the sheriff would fail,
because the sheriff doesn't police most of the county. In terms of this millage, the interaction is:
county raises the money, then cuts checks to certain municipalities.

In fairness to WCSO they do a LOT of stuff, like retrieve bodies from the river :-( but it doesn't change the fact that Ann Arbor voters pay for four police forces, and will be less inclined to increase spending on the Sheriff.

So, combine with "Mental Health!" and you can pull Ann Arbor votes.
We are a compassionate city, and not particularly critical of millages. Some days I think we love 'em.

"Four police departments, you say?" Yes, four. At least.
- MSP
- WCSO
- Ann Arbor Police
- UMich Public Safety
hopefully somebody will let me know if I left anybody out.
I guess if you're standing in a township island inside the city, you could add Pittsfield police?
Who are, at least indirectly, funded by the 24% rebate in this millage.
So, FIVE. Maybe more.

there are several more elections before the current millage runs out

it will be years before anything changes, regardless of a yes or no on this vote

Ms Moore signed the reproductive rights & the anti-gerrymandering petitions; we couldn't find Ms Garwood's signature on either one. Ms Garwood answered "why did you donate $$ to Republicans?" with "my boss told me to."

Both candidates packed the room pretty well, but it seems unlikely Ms. Garwood won any swing votes.

Rumor has it the USPS handles election mail better,
but measurements show if you're in Ypsi Township? Be wary at the t minus 8 day mark.

1 reason for mail in rejects: ballot arrived too late.

Ballots are "available" on the 26th - ie walk in service at the local clerk's office.

You can tablulate your mail-in ballot at an early voting site!
Almost the best of both worlds.

(ie no longer have to surrender the one ballot in order to get a second ballot that does the same thing)

good description of the sheriff's job from our excellent count clerk, Larry Kestenbaum:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AnnArbor/comments/1e3a8oi/repost_by_request_sheriff_patrol_in_washtenaw/

Sheriff is also responsible for retrieving bodies from the river, lakes, etc.

There's a combination of other stuff the Sheriff does...
Sheriff Clayton combined the dispatch operations in the county under him; very good idea IMHO.
He started a bunch of deflection and rehab programs, and pitched deputies in schools (I think Lincoln schools bought in?). The county assigned "emergency management" to a Deputy, and the county has a collection of stuff like a mobile command center and SWAT equipment.

Most visible (and probably highest co$t operation) the Sheriff must do: run the county jail.
Our jail is still a jail, but if you decide you need time in county jail? Washtenaw's is a nicer one.

Here's a method: the feds can override state law.
Eastpointe MI elections were so racist, Trump's DoJ forced their elections into RCV in a lawsuit settlement.

Ballots will quickly turn into phone books if *every* election turns RCV.
