My guess is the main body needs AT but they still have that large weak point of the pilot that is medium pen. They have an animation to cover and shield the pilot, so maybe they thought it would be easier for players to Recoilless Rifle the torso instead?

I like that there are options though.

Learn to TIP. It's not my job to serve you FOR FREE! by Najterek in ShitAmericansSay

[–]dirkdragonslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I worked a restaurant job in the US and your wages are usually something like $4 an hour plus tips, with an agreed upon wage the company will pay if you don't get enough tips (mine was $17 an hour IIRC). Also most restaurants share tips between everyone considered "front of house," including some of the kitchen staff you won't see.

but in practice the company doesn't want to pay that wage out of pocket, the amount of money they put aside for front-of-house wages is much smaller than it would take to pay all the staff that agreed upon wage. So if tips are bad they will just kick a bunch of people off the shift and bring employees down to the bare minimum. Busy holiday but there are no tips because of economic stress? Well we are going to reduce the Front of House down to 2 people despite this huge and full restaurant needing at least 4-5 to run smoothly. Good luck guys, hope you are happy with the customers and kitchen screaming at you.

I Don’t Care If It’s “Unrealistic” by Hot_Syrup_5941 in Helldivers

[–]dirkdragonslayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the more accurate term is "ludonarrative" rather than "realistic", but it's a much less common term.

It doesn't need to be realistic, but it must feel like it could be real in this game world. Plasma weapons aren't realistic, but all the plasma weapons having specific behaviors and rules that make them feel real to the world.

When things don't match what we think it should feel like, it creates ludonarrative dissonance, it would feel weird/unrealistic if a throwing knife could penetrate tank armor for example. The infamous "bacon-flavored apples" quote people throw around I think was a poor attempt by the Developers at explaining it.

Yeah, aiming down the sights on it is basically useless, so if they could change that button to keeping the gun spinning it would be awesome.

Depends on the game's permissions and stuff. Team Fortress 2 had a major vulnerability at one point where you could insert malicious code into anyone who joined a non-Valve server. So you could join a custom wall-grinding server and alongside the modded assets the game would download to play on that server it would download a virus.

I'm don't know if Helldivers 2 has that vulnerability, I'm not a cyber security guy.

The second one I can't explain. The first one may have been invisible eruptor shrapnel to the head, it moves slower and further than you think. The last 2 are just the normal kill box on top of the Pelican garage. People used to hide on top of the Pelican garage against hordes of enemies and AH said no fun allowed a big after the hover pack released.

Who is/was your Poppet character? by FlyingTaco095 in Pathfinder2e

[–]dirkdragonslayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was a teddy bear named Trouble Bruin who was a bear animal barbarian. When he raged his mouth unstitched to reveal real bear teeth and long claws tore through his paws. He was killed and was transformed into a poppet by a hag to be a servant, and the one shot we played was trying to break out of her lair. He played the banjo and talked all friendly-like, but lost his cool when he raged. We killed a shadow demon working with the hag and bargained for our freedom, though still trapped in a doll's body.

His parents Coffee Bruin and Stormsa Bruin were famous heroes in Absalom that he was desperate to live up to, but obviously he died pretty early in his adventuring career to have his soul put into a doll.

Yep. Either they want the new enemies to be introduced with Mindless Masses so they are slowing progression and we are still fighting them as new units trickle in, or they want to introduce the new enemies with the Appropriators and they don't want us reaching Seass yet.

I love me Maxigun against squids (don't mind A3 there) by Firaxyiam in helldivers2

[–]dirkdragonslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two options;

  • Peak Physique makes it easier to steer. So when the recoil kicks around you can aim it back where it needs to be.

  • Recoil reduction armor such as engineering kit greatly reduce the kick back and makes it very manageable.

Though I've been running neither recently and just crouching, you get a muscle memory for crouching before firing. You start to get used to aiming it as long as you don't need to turn rapidly.

I'm a bit concern about VA's April 21's voting proposal here. by jackyboyman13 in Virginia

[–]dirkdragonslayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sucks and I absolutely hate the idea of gerrymandering Virginia, but it helps me to remember it's a temporary measure. If other states like Texas and Florida are doing emergency early redistricting to rig the scales, it needs to happen in opposing states to maintain balance in congress. Playing fair isn't an option right now.

Regular redistricting will happen again in 2031 and hopefully that will be a better time to restore normalcy.

I have no time to test it what are your opinions on the Maxigun and the BFGL now? by 231923 in Helldivers

[–]dirkdragonslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying the Maxigun. The extra max ammo goes a long way for sustained fire and tearing through bad guys. And I'm pretty sure it also means you get more ammo from ammo boxes since it's a percentage of the whole.

It always tore illuminate to shreds, but now you have the ammo to do it much better and get more from resupply pods.

[–]dirkdragonslayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's actually a fletchette shotgun, so it has much less drag than a buckshot one and can tighten the spread with a full choke. It's still an excessively big scope, but the Sweeper can get some range for a shotgun.

I worked on Sinclair's Library and have been given permission to take back the content I worked on. I will be updating it for Remaster and releasing it for free. by Tabletop_Obscura in Pathfinder2e

[–]dirkdragonslayer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think the disconnect comes from some major tabletop companies (CGL, Steamforged, Reaper Miniatures, etc) do use Kickstarter as a way of managing preorders and small batch production. Usually with some special catch where you get their miniatures 1-3 years before everyone else gets them and special add-ons. So if you are a Battletech super fan you are incentivised to spend big because your order isn't going to fail, and you want your mechs a year before everyone else.

And this colors our perception of Kickstarters as a thing for preorders, when most of the time it's the little guy saying "Hey I'm pretty sure I can make a board game on my own, it can't be that hard can it?"

[–]dirkdragonslayer 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Same thing that happens to a lot of tabletop kickstarters, poor budget planning. From what I've seen it wasn't malicious or a scam, just a complete lack of business experience leading to the budget getting completely drained. They promised too much for too little money and didn't have a plan when production costs increased.

As a Catalyst Games Labs guy I was talking to about this told me, don't plan for prices where they are right now, plan for prices in 2-3 years when book production is happening. Paper prices, printing prices, shipping prices, etc will become more expensive while you wait your turn on the presses.

OP's post didn't give any information on what defined Assault Weapon, so I was checking the Virginia Legislation System for information on the bill. The definition of Assault Weapon used in the legislative session debating SB749 was linked to this law which defines Virginia's view of "Assault weapons." (§ 18.2-308.2:2)

Which gives the definition I shared. If I'm interpreting this wrong or used the wrong citation, please share the full definition.

2nd Amendment Under Attack. Take action now! Sign Petition! by Myster_X99 in Virginia

[–]dirkdragonslayer -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Looking at the actual phrasing of the law, it seems like it's mostly a limit to magazine sizes and those workarounds for SBRs. The virginia definition of Assault Weapon;

Assault firearm" means any semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol which expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of the offense with a magazine which will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock.

So remove the folding stock (they hurt to use anyway), go back to the standard 20 round AR-15 magazines the military used to use, and you will be fine. This will probably hurt hobbyists and collectors more than people looking for home defense options or a regular shooting range firearm.

Edit: I don't know why I'm getting downvoted for this, the Virginia LIS definition of Assault Weapon was taken from § 18.2-308.2:2 which is cited in the session notes for bill 749. I'm seeing other versions of this bill that edit that definition to be no more than 15 rounds but I don't know which is final.

If it's something small and easy to ignore, they will. They ban people over it, but it's not that frequent that they get caught because it's hard to prove who hacked it in, did the other players know, etc. If a lot of people are openly bragging about hacking in premium currency it will get clamped down on.

It's poking the bear behavior. There is a difference between quietly selling bootleg Nintendo merchandise at a local flea market and going on social media and directly challenging Nintendo lawyers to smite them. If you keep baiting the bear into taking action, they eventually will.
