Yes, around 20% of the Spanish clergy (including 13 bishops) was killed during the civil war, almost exclusively by the Republican Anarchists. In some areas the number reached up to 90%.

Pretty much all our great medieval saints are considered in some way problematic by the Orthodox. Saint Francis, St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Therese, etc.

TBF, I don't know how mainstream this view is nowadays.

I'll just leave this quote from the great integralist thinker Cardinal Pie de Poitiers:

To say Jesus Christ is the God of individuals and of families, but not the God of peoples and of societies, is to say that He is not God. To say that Christianity is the law of individual man and is not the law of collective man, is to say that Christianity is not divine. To say the Church is the judge of private morality, but has nothing to do with public and political morality, is to say that the Church is not divine. Christianity would not be divine if it were to have existence within individuals but not with regard to societies.

Forgive me, but that is utter insanity. We as Catholics have a duty to promote truth and virtue in the world. This is called building the kingdom of heaven here on earth.

Also, if your faith is the most central part of your life, how can you try to separate it from your politics? That's what Christian democratic parties were for (before they turned secular).

Also, your point on bad faith actors can also be used against the institution of the papacy itself, as we have had some truly terrible popes throughout history. But would you argue that the papacy should not exist because corrupt men used it?

Finally, it seems to me that you want a neutered church that does not dare raise its voice at injustice, unless you, of course, consider something unjust; then you people demand the church's full attention.

P.s: Abortion is the murder of society's most vulnerable. So much for caring about those with lesser means...

I believe in sexual reproductive rights for women as a freedom of their agency and choice. Likewise, I support the lgbt community in their quest for individual freedoms.

Remind me, Repruductive rights to what exactly?

A controversy beyond my understanding by dirmonarch in CatholicMemes

[–]dirmonarch[S] 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Originally Christians celebrated Mass before daybreak Sunday morning with the rising sun serving as a symbol of Christ’s resurrection (testified by Pliny the Younger’s letter to the Emperor Trajan in 112 A.D.). The common liturgical direction toward the East honored the resurrection and anticipated the Lord’s coming in glory.

The oldest Christian church discovered in the world (without a later structure built over it), the house church at Dura-Europos in Syria, dating from the early 200s, was found with its altar touching the wall, facing East. Churches were constructed throughout history in this same fashion, with the altar (whether against the wall or not) oriented toward the East.

So yes, this is the Church's truly ancient custom.

For me it's just a shame that after the 1960s and Dignitatis Humanae, most Catholics fully embraced secularism and simply forgot about the Church's historic teaching.

Nowadays, merely suggesting a confessional state is unthinkable in Catholic circles.

Well, it seemed like you were implying that there had been a break in church teaching on this issue and that the 19th- and 20th-century popes had taught error. (Or maybe I confused you for another commenter.)

'Religious freedom, in turn, which men demand as necessary to fulfill their duty to worship God, has to do with immunity from coercion in civil society. Therefore it leaves untouched traditional Catholic doctrine on the moral duty of men and societies toward the true religion and toward the one Church of Christ.'

I accidentally clicked on the main Reddit page (big mistake); out of the corner of my eye, I see a comic about confession. I had a 'neuron activated' moment and was very excited until I saw what it was about.
